Spotted Blue Eyes

Sadly the males wouldn't come out and show their pretty yellow fins, but one of the females had a good hard look at me and some of the older fry also hung around for a photo.

Their tank is insanely thick with plants and the newly hatched fry are smaller than new born cherry shrimp, their eggs aren't much bigger. So I am terrified of actually thinning the plant life and accidentally moving either fry or eggs into another tank where they will sure be picked off by ravenous monsters (well monsters in comparison).

I think she would make a good Halloween pic of a freaky fish. LOL

As soon as I left the front of their tank, of course the rest of them had to finally show themselves loud and proud in the front of the tank. If I get a chance I will try to get a pic of the newly hatched fry, miniscule.

I snuck outside and caught the Blue Eyes napping near the front of the tank and actually managed to photograph the males.

Love these Gertrudae probably my fav blue eye, Brought some back from the Jardine R Cape York in 1991. Have you ever seen the one from Cairns area it has Larger spots but smaller fins with a mauve shading to body. I believe it is still found around Innisfail area, would love to get my hands on some again, hint, hint, if you live in this neighbour hood.

I know of two people in that area, I might have to see if my friend up in Cairns is ready for another shrimp and fish finding expedition yet.

Best photos yet of some of my spotted blue eyes.... sadly only best because of the clarity not the actual background.

Two of the males where also sparring and displaying but alas they move to quick for me to get clear photos of.

Nice blue eyes, i keep pacific in a pond and they don't look that good, the spots make them pop.

Still not the best pictures (these fish really have no concept of sit and stay bloody still>( , and are generally camera shy as well. Add to this the tank being very old with odd coloured glass and about a million marks and scratches that I cant get rid of and it makes for interesting photography attempts. Oh and cant forget the lovely tea coloured water from the huge hollow log. But enjoy these few happy snaps which almost capture some of these great fishes colour and personality.

The males have been busy sparring and chasing each other about (and a sneaky smaller male has been taking the opportunity to make out with the girls ;) ), so I am hoping to hear the swishing fins of yet more fry soon :)

Thanks, at least they weren't all grey blurs with a splash of yellow as they zoomed out of shot. I am still yet to get half way decent pictures of the threadfins too, since they are another hyperactive fish.

Luv them Blue Eyes, my fav little fish, spectacular in the morning sun sparring with each other.
