Here is another option. When you hook up your RO unit' date=' buy some airline tube that is long enough from you RO unit to the top tank on your rack. This could be all the Way across the room/house. Then fill the holding tank on top of your rack directly from you RO unit (will take hours). When it's full, mix the salty shrimp untill you get the correct TDS reading. Now the two holding is ready to use without any effort. To do a water change, siphon the tank below( shrimp tank). Then get an air line tube and hook it from the holding tank to the shrimp tank with a plastic value/tap to control the flow. The down side of this is if you forget about the drip, it wil overflow your shrimp tank.to fix that you can get a auto top device( $35)that sits inside of you shrimp tank. It will stop the water fflow from your holding tank when the water level has reach your desire setting. I'm not sure if this makes any sense :([/quote']Phheewwww I bought the right thing lol. I cbought the stand that it sits on :-) perfect for bucket use...The top tanks are drilled for use as another lot of shrimp tanks . So they have holes at the top. I figure I can stick hoses in via there. That reach the bottoms of the tanks. I do like the thought of a auto top up device like MrShrimp mentioned :-) lots of ideas. Also do I really have to run the ro unit for 2 hrs because I dont know how long It has not been used ???

Just remember to put the waste water down the drain or on the garden, only the filtered water goes into the drum(I think the red line is waste water) :victorious:

To check which is the waste or filters water, get a sample of each and use your tds pen to check. The tds should read anything around 10 in the filterd water.

I wish it worked like that but then why would it need 2 lines if both were purified water? LOL! This is why it pays to do some research before doing anything, says the guy who does things first and reads he manual/instructions after...

Blackcat, well done on this thread, it's turning out to be very educational for many, and no doubt helping other members too. Really glad you've taken the losses by the chin and moved up a level towards the RO, TDS .... route. When your tanks are settled and ready, send me a PM , and send some shrimps down to you :-) :encouragement:

:-) that may take a while BB but omg youve all been so amazing during this path but I must say that the losses are so hard to take . But it will be the best learning curve for not just me but many many newcomers ! An expensive learning curve but a valuable one :-) theres always more to learn . And to have some of BB's shrimp as a positive to work towards the end will be amazing.

Sorry to hear about the losses mate.

However, I was wondering if you could get some good close up photo shots of the shrimp carcass for the "Diseases and Diagnosis" thread that is under constant development?

Assuming these deaths are related to GH imbalance. A couple of examples would be good.

Post the photos up here and I'll use them (with your permission) in the Disease & Diagnosis thread with a bit of a writeup.

Update no deaths today and the ro water is ready however my salty shrimp supplier didnt listen and send asap bit rather has let 5 days lapse.... oh well heres hoping it comes tomorrow although they say their shipping tomorrow.

Quick question I seem to be having some probs with the cannister and the 2 tanks water levels. No matter how delicately we chamge the valves we cant seem to stabalize the wster balance and are scared that the room will flood with 160L so the question is ... can I turn the cannister off and just run the 4 air driven sponge filters ?

I can't see why not, I have four of my tanks running on just sponge filters & they are breeding like crazy :encouragement:

If you can seperate the tanks then just use the canister in one tank and the other will just use the sponge. If your using sponge only, reduce your feeding and it will be fine. Lots of people oversea only use sponge filters but you hv to get your feeding right. Alvin uses K1 media in a bottle with an air line, very popular

Wow, that's crazy! Who did you get it off? The forum sponsors are usually next day delivery. :dejection:
