Hey All,

Firstly. Not sure if this is the right location for this, so mods please move if necessary!

I work in the stationery industry and something is being talked about in the market that might be of interest to you all.

There is a new concept being sold into news agents across Australia, which will mean they will be able to send and receive parcels via TNT. This means you will be able to send and receive parcels from 6am through 6pm at your local newsagent, handy for the full timers.

It is going through final trials now and should be running by early next year.

Not sure of delivery timeframes but TNT do same day delivery statewide at present.

Might be a handy option for those whom have been disappointed by Auspost in the past.

Will keep you posted as I hear more. The concept is called hubbed by a company called connect.

Just thought I would share.

Cheers.

Oh yeah, projected price on parcels is expected to be half of what Auspost is currently charging.

Cheers

Im down with TNT. I hope they have the service for all of Australia. Auspost sucks at the moment. Send it with Platinum Express Post and took two days. Suppose to be next day delivery.

It's up to the individual news agent if they wish to participate (3 year contracts) but from what I am hearing it would cover all of the country. Will post more definitive info once it becomes available!!

Would love to see this happen, we hated Royal Mail when living in the UK but by comparison it was so much cheaper and I hate to say it, more reliable! The number of times I ordered things up to 3pm and had them the next day was fantastic, a lot of automated systems. Here, feels like we're back in the dark ages, but the prices are just ridiculous! We used to buy and sell a lot of books on Ebay, can't do that in Australia, just not worth it.

  • 3 months later...

There are some newsagents in my area who have received posters and promotional materials but not had the training yet. Toll are keen to get it started. It will be called nparcel and I would imagine only another month or so away. Will ask for more details from some today!!

Will be interesting to see how it goes (if it does go ahead hahaha) and see if there is much of a difference. Although half the price is one advantage! Even if it is only the same service quality as Aus post hahaha.

It's a little confusing as there are two options being rolled out.

One with TNT is expensive for the newsagent but better for the consumers. And newsagent is primary pick up and drop off point.

The less expensive one is what I am seeing appear in VIC but it is through Toll. Supposedly, at this stage, if they try to deliver and no answer they leave a slip. You can call a number and nominate the newsagent as a second delivery point (the next day :( ). They are looking to roll out newsagent as primary delivery address.

Looks like legislation in NSW may hinder both, but the companies are taking Aust Post to court to rectify this.

It may take awhile longer to be an effective alternative.

Once more details are released I will post. Cheers.

I was in the PO today & mentioned this to them & they new nothing about it but they did say that Austpost had bought Startrak Express to do all the parcel postage(maybe that's just up here in QLD). I don't know how true this is but it seem there a lot of speculation going on about who's delivering what & it's starting to get very confusing.

Not to steel this thread but I'm considering using starstrak they offer better delivery than Australia post and pick up from your house. It does cost $1 more than Australia post though. If this one with the is cheaper but offers great service that would be awsome

Stick with what works methinks!!

The Austpost group seem relatively unaware of the other options. Most Post Offices I call on would probably be happy for someone else to deliver parcels as they don't really make much out of it at present.

Like I said, until the other options have established themselves thoroughly, best to go with what works.

Mate, for only a dollar more, and they pick up from your house, awesome. Especially appealing as you had pretty big issues with Austpost delays in the past too!! (if I remember correctly??)

what's wrong with $15 express or $20 express platium from auspost?

I deliver to vic from sydney 5pm closing time and it gets there 10am the next morning?

Unless you are sending sulawesi shrimps which is the only freshwater shrimps that need high temps then It wouldn't be necessary?

I lost a panda today from 40c heat in the post but my mate has had twb shrimps in the post for 5 days and they survived!!!
