There's so many ways to approach this, as the choices of substrates...etc is numerous. Personally for CBS, I would go with Benibachi, or ADA (several threads discussing ADA ATM, unsure with your access whether you're able to view them), plus RO water with Salty Shrimp, will assure you of a good foundation. If you're using tap water, know its WP (Water Parameters).

Post up some pics, details, (i.e. tap WP...etc), and I'm sure many of the members here will be able to assist).

What he said! Lol. :encouragement: Definitely Benibachi substrate unless your thinking of plants then black earth premium or ADA. Same with SaltyShrimp if your going to use RO water but, as BB has already said, if you are using tap water then know your WP. :victorious:

They were I would (and am currently tackling it...)

ADA maylaya (powder or normal, I chose powder so it saved buying 2 big bags which would of cost a fortune and left me with lots left over, and help shrimplets not get lost :P )

Salty Shrimp

RO Kit

Then an array of natural foods (IAL, bee pollen, veggies... there is a massive thread on it) and a selection of manufactured foods (Benibachi is always a quality product)

Thanks heaps guys.

I would love to get a RO unit but the price is quite hefty. I am keeping a look out on the auction sights.

The substrate I went with ista plant substrate. (As I got it for a steal)

I think I'm gonna try water collected from the gutters. I have a .5 micron charcoal filter and a 1 micron filter from the rain water tank. Ill purchase that salty shrimp. Any recommendations on where to purchase it.

Do you guys think I need any other products like mineral rock or vitamins to help shedding or promote breeding?

Ill post a photo of the tank tonight and start a journal. I just ordered a massive amount of plants from Liverpool creek. Hopefully they will be here tomorrow.

You can get a portable RO unut for <$150 and when you look at how much you spend on everything else I think it is a pretty good investment.

Okay. So you have got me looking at ro units. Do you recommend 3,5,6 or 7 stage. I have found one. At and auction site for $90. It's a three stage with carbon. Membrane. Di.

I would recommend getting from a more reputable source such as the one that sponsored our competition "Filter Systems Australia" as that way you will be sure it works properly and if any problems/questions arise they will be more then happy to address them. It may cost a bit more but better then buying a crap one that works for a few weeks/months only and craps itself. A 3 stage is fine btw...

Cool...As long as they don't use 2+ different names on a single site right (cough..cough, The forum that shall remain nameless)? LOL!
