So what was supposed to be just a general water change has turned into a 3 hour job for 1 tank, while im doing my water change today I noticed there was a couple of my ninja shrimp in the filter (no biggie ill scoop them out and put back into the tank) nope the filter is to small for even the smallest of my nets and its part of the tank so I cant take it all apart, so then taking all filter wool and sponges out I soon discover that the shrimp have decided to release there babies in the filter so trying to catch the shrimplets as well now..

Least on the bright side im succseful with breeding ninjas :)

Glad its not just me, I had one of those yesterday as well. Water Change ended up taking about 2 hours for all 12 tanks however we found 6 Blonde Tigers so I'm pretty stoked

Hahaha, I think we all have the same problem, I have a big black cherry mamma that keeps getting into the filter, I don't know how she keeps doing it cause she's way too big for the slots & I have filter wool behind them, she is madam Houdini! Lol :smiley_simmons:

Thats exactly what I did today was stuff filter sponge and wool right up against the overflow slots to hopefully stop them getting in but if yours still does myn probably will too lol

LOL.....always thought my filters were shrimplet proof, and it amazes me how many I find each filter clean ! As long as the results are good, then it's all good. :encouragement:

I got so fed up with my cubes filters with shrimp getting in there and nets all too big -even the smallest -so I ended up taking the "sump" area of the cube out and not only do they have more room but no escapees anymore yay!

I did the wool jam, worked until the wool clogged and the water rose anyway...i cut a small piece of very fine ss mesh which now sits over the front of the filter (fluval spec so all inbuilt and non removable). It has helped a lot, but when i cleaned the filter on saturday it still had 50 or so cherry shrimplets....

I've got the spec too, you don't find they climb the mesh? I was thinking of putting the mesh behind the slots on the filter side. :encouragement:

I got hubby and his stanly knife to cut all the silicone and remove everything but mine was an Aqua One cube so maybe different. I'm just using sponge filters and no longer have any issues.

ye its the pain with having built in filters, but oh well i only need a temporary fix until my big tank arrives :), but knowing what im like the other tanks will still come back out eventually lol
