Thanks! Any tips for feeding/raising shrimplets? Just realised how bad the glass needs a clean too :cower:

You can crush your normal shrimp food to powder and put tiny amount when its feeding time. You can also buy commercial shrimp baby foods from the sponsors like AquaKitz and BossAquaria.

Dirty glass is a good thing actually, it means you got plenty of biofilms in your tank. Thats what shrimps normally eat.

Congratulations on the berried mummas!!! My shrimplets spend most of the day grazing on the side and rear walls of the tank, eating the algae and biofilm buildup.

Don't clean that glass!! Maybe the front so you can see the tank but that is the best food there is for babies:encouragement:

Yeah give or take a couple of days depending on temperature.

There was a thread on that somewhere on skf.

About 3pages back in General discussion.

Cheers jayc, good read. Very intrigued to see what I end up with. As last week in Adelaide we had a couple of days of 30 degrees and my tank went up a couple of degrees (only being a nano tank). And now it's back down to 22. Just hope it doesn't adversely effect them!?!?!

The cherries are ok with higher temps but the crystals don't like higher temps and really need more stable temps. I started off with Red Cherries in Dec last year in nano tanks and on the hot days of jan, feb and march I just put the lights out, moved the front lid off and had a ceiling fan on in the room when the air con wasn't on. I had no deaths and heaps of babies. Tank temps got up to 28 over several weeks.

Congrats mate exciting times to come. 1 tip about feeding babies.. less is more. If u over feed u can end up with planaria.. or worse like ammonia spike. Like mentioned above keep the back and side glass 'dirty' for shrimplets.. that way when ur not feeding them there is food still available for the little guys :encouragement:

  • 2 weeks later...

Well I returned from a weeks holiday today to find a few of these crawling around my tankpost-1297-139909863977_thumb.jpgpost-1297-13990986398_thumb.jpg Must say, seeing my first little shrimplets was pretty exciting!!! Also found a red cherry berried in my other tank. Which only has three shrimp in it and didn't actually think they were going to breed cos they've been in there for ages and nothing had happened! I Should go on holiday more often :applause:

The less you pay attention to your shrimp, the more they get it on :)

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Hi Guys,  Does anyone know where to buy PRL shrimps in WA, not the CRS please. Thanks Regards

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
