Thanks all

I say my substrate is dry because it is 10cm thick at some parts and there would be air pockets inside

Also, I hydrogen peroxide everything that goes in my tank so I have no figgen clue how it got that big!

After doing some research I'm 100% sure it's not a leech as the head resembles that of an ordinary earth worm.

I haven't noticed any dead shrimp and from the size of that thing it would have killed some by now if it was a shrimp killer!

ill take it out if I can but yeh, it hasn't done any harm yet...

btw, I have noticed a lot less planaria so maybe this thing is eating all planaria in the substrate?

What do earthworms eat?

No It was not meant like that Ineke' date=' when I put up what I think on some things I get email and PMs saying I am so wrong and I don't know what I am on about, so I don't say much usually and the annoying thing is most who send them have seen the things or kept the things, just read it on the NET. I have had a couple here to.

A classic is from a OS forum that keeps big stuff, I put up some info on a Eel that went against all they thought they knew, no one had been to where they were in the wild, so they really knew not that much but because one of the experts on it said different, it was the way it should be. Funny thing is they could not keep them long term?

Thanks Ineke for pulling me up on that, I am not tactful at all.

I would try to get rid of the air bubbles as it can change to nitrogen & create problems later on. :victorious:

Earthworms just process dirt & absorb any organic waste. :encouragement:

Looks like an earthworm to me. And I have had earthworms in my tanks in the past. I never bothered to take them out and they disappeared after a while.

Anyone know how long it take for an earthworm to grow that big?

And how long they can survive for?

I have a feeling it came with my substrate since I bleech everything I put in my tank with H202

got any animals like a cat/dog/bird that could have got to the tank?

Lol not a chance

But yeh it could have been in the original soil...

But all good it hasn't done anything to my shrimps and my plants r doing well + I think it's eating the baby planaria in the substrate lol!

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
