Hey All :)

Great to see another dedicated Aquarium forum for us Aussies!

I am doing as much research as possible at the moment as i have only ever hosted RCS.

I am setting up a Fluval Edge in the coming weeks and will only be hosting CRS, are they much harder to keep over RCS? I dont want to go too much of a higher grade as i feel as though i might lose a few on the way, also besides the local fish shop, where can i find some cheaper options online? I have looked at Gumtree but i feel as though they are still higher priced.

Thanks guys :)

Here is a pic of my old tank:

Love that tank, did you strip it down to start again?

Welcome to SKF by the way, you will find lots of members here willing to help with advice.

Whats the bottle in the back left corner for?

Heres another photo i found :)

I stripped out down due to a mixture of no time and getting over the harder to grow plants, i then persued to try and run a successful marine - which i did and enjoyed but way more effort in keeping the tank healthy and much, much more expensive... will add an image below :)

The bottle in the back corner is DIY Co2, this heaps feed the plants Co2 through mini bubbles, it is a mixture of yeast and warm water which creates Co2 which then travels into the diffuser (down the bottom left little glass looking tube) which dissolves in the water, you can read more here - http://www.plantedtank.net/articles/DIY-Yeast-CO2/7/

& here is a pic of my now resting in peace coral tank :)

Welcome to SKF. Nice tanks. If you put the same effort into your new shrimp tank as you have for these tanks it will be a stunner.

Welcome to the forum Beno :victorious:

Those tanks are spectacular and im sure you can easily keep high grade shrimp if you can manage a marine ;). Also, shrimp can be purchased/traded on here at awesome prices :), Though premium membership is required for all BSS.

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
