Clown fish eggs

thought id share something else i have been working on for about 12 months now :)

still trying to get the babies to live but slowly getting there..

Biggest problem is just being ready when they hatch, i always miss it..

Depending what grade they are, these clown are very pricy. The more white on it, the more expensive. That pair in the pic would cost around $1000 a pair if you can find them.That price is a year ago so I don't know how much they are worth now.

Can so relate to that, we had Percs breed several times when living in the UK. We noticed though with their third spawning the female's behaviour became a bit more aggressive when they were almost ready to hatch, that for us was a key indicator for the last group of which we raised about 75 young. Not a high percentage at all but this was a standard 4x2x2 running on canister filtration and a skimmer, breeding was definitely not the plan.

For food we used just standard powdered foods for the first week, these guys start to move and grow pretty quickly. And they looked just like their parents when they hatch, really cool. Good luck with the whites, never seen that species before

That Platinum Clown is stunning dude, there's two clowns in the new line bred colour variants that I think are awesome, Picasso Clowns(first pic) & Lightning Clown(second pic)

The picasso clown fish is the same species as the platinum clownfish but less white. A year ago I saw a Picasso pair selling for $700. I think the lightning is a clown fish but a differant species to the platinum and Picasso.

Correct dude, Platinum & Picasso are Amphiprion Percular & the Lightning Clowns are Premnas Biaculeatus :victorious:

That makes me laugh. The 'designer' clowns originated from mis-barred offspring, as in the fish didn't get the same pattern as their parents or wild fish due probably to missing out on some essential nutrition in the egg or planktonic phase. Essentially it was (and still is) a big problem because mis-barred clowns are cull grade because most saltwater enthusiasts like natural looking fish, that is until someone cleverly marketed the mis-barred clowns as a 'special' variant.

We have grown Amphiprion latezonatus at work which are extremely rare in the hobby as they are only found here at the Solitary Islands at Coffs Harbour, Lord Howe Island and up to the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef. Unfortunately most of the offspring were mis-barred but still sold due to their rarity. Just got a lot less for them.

I know what you mean Ben, it's very interesting how today's culls will be tomorrows $1000 fish but it's the same with all fancy designer fish, Bettas are exactly the same with all their variations :encouragement:

Some beautiful fish guys, loved keeping and breeding marines when living in the UK, was so much cheaper though as we'll, my RO unit cost me 70 quid for a pretty high volume unit.

Hahaha, my biggest problem is I have way too much room to put as many tanks as I want, but I have to control the beast inside which is MTS, lol

Hey Dean, i use to breed tomato clown, it was a good 7 to 8 years ago so my memory is going lol..

i forgot how many days it was but you could normally tell by looking at the eggs, and they would hatch i think within 1 hour after lights off

 

may i ask what your feeding them? im guessing rotifers ?
