I think i had one of them nicely wrapped in a leaf so I would be keen to know what it is too????

OMG, I don't know what it is but you better remove it ASAP . Doesn't look friendly.

Looks like a caddis fly larva, similar to the ones you will see crawling about the garden that attach sticks etc to their case to protect them and provide housing. From memory caddis are vegetarian, so not generally harmful to fish. On a side note Gerrald Durrell had heaps of fun with caddis' flies giving them all sorts of pretty nick nacks which the caddis flies incorporated into their " hides". Since they use what is in their surrounds to make their camafloge home.
