Recommended Posts

Just updating the $ Guide, and would appreciate feedback, opinions etc so that the mods can update the 6+ month old $ Guide.

I'm trying to simplify it to take into account new / variants etc, and also to put a fairer price on guaranteed males, females & pairs. Please read the "Notes", and again appreciate feedback

Looks good and easy to understand I think BB made a mistake with TBMM and then wrote TBMP at the price area

Thanks ineke, fixed.

We should also have a discussion / understanding on the $ for TBM or TBMM, as there is a dilution of pure TB genetics. As such, they should never be sold at the same $ as a pure TB, and needs to be stated where they come from genetically, i.e. TBM OR TBMM...etc. Not a great situation when breeding a TB x TB (but one or both parents are TBM or TBMM), and expecting 100% TB shrimplet rate, but only getting 25%.

Having bred a small number of TBs from TB parents I've also had mishlings come through in the same drop, I just figure it happens and I can live with that. As to

their F number now thats a different story

Further on this topic ......

I think the REALLY important discussion needs to be About Mishling X Mishling - obviously you get some TBMM (and that has been delt with price wise and you just have to trust the seller) but the pheno-typical CRS/CBS/SW/Golden young surely can not still be sold as Michlings?

But a mischling shrimplet from say an f6 mischling x f6 mischling cross will still have a high %TB in it. Im not sure of precisely how it works, but the shrimplet couldn't be sold as an f6 or higher mischling certainly, however, it is still a mischling.

By the way, there are SSS and there are real SSS. SSS from crystals with snow or golden gene should be clarified as they are cheating SSS and should be verified as to how far back the white gene is?

If its ok to clarify TB purity it should be the same with crystals? Yes?

Shocked at some of the prices of shrimp in Aus !!

Why do I always pick expensive hobbies? :dejection:

I visited several aquariums in Singapore last week, and you could get a bag of 10x S/SS CRS for SGD$22 (about AUD$20).

That's $2 each.

Sigh. Hopefully one day soon, we will get to those prices.

We're slowly getting there JayC. I doubt it'll ever be as cheap, but prices have come down significantly in just the last 6 months.

And Ninja, yes I agree we should clarify ALL shrimps purity. I think it just comes down to honesty.

+1, unfortunately some sellers arent as honest as others. Then I guess it comes down to the buyers judgment and unfortunately I think newbies will still be caught out by deceitful sellers.

It is almost buyer beware. It's best to buy from a reliable source here at SKF at least you have a better chance of getting what you pay for.

The $ guide is an indication of pricing on various shrimp & types. Absolute quality is another factor, and is to a degree subjective, so perhaps best to leave it to buyer/seller. Presume once a hobbyist has reached a level of experience and knowledge of quality/purity, they would know whether a SSS is worth $70 or $200....

TBM and TBMM, is to differentiate the % of TB genetics / quality. Appreciate hobbyist are using Mishling x Mishlings to create TB's, as a alternatively route, due to price, but I believe mishlings are created to add genetic strength, rather then building of a TB colony. So should Mish x Mish be encouraged ? As a purist I don't believe so. My BB's are all F4-6 now and are breeding 99% true TB's. My KK and WR were crossed back to Mish to add genetic strength, but I am now breeding them true, and have the 1st F1 generation coming through. So if I do sell them, I will state this, as I can appreciate the frustration of a hobbyist investing in a TB pair, and then having Mishling shrimplets !

Great to have this conversation / opinions, as it strengthens all our knowledge, and collective experience etc....
