Sorry to hear Peppy. I have used the Internal parasite clear as many others have. I'm pretty sure Dean double and maybe even triple dosed some of his tanks with no shrimpy casualties. I have treated my tanks twice now, the first time it was 3 doses of 1 level scoop 3 days apart with around a 10-15% water change before each dose. This second time it was 3 doses of 1 heaped spoon 3 days apart with no water change at all till a couple of days after the 3rd dose. My tanks are 45cm cubes so that's around 90 litres. I had no shrimp casualties and there is still an extremely berried shadow panda that belongs to a friend due any day in there. My first treatment caused an ammonia spike after the 2nd dose, I must have had a heap of them.

I suspect that as others are saying it might be a contaminant that has caused the issue. With my limited knowledge the deaths and amount of them seem almost to quick to be bacterial issues.

It would seem more like an ammonia or nitrite spike, how old are your test kits? I ask this as I was using some that were around 3 years old and they were not indicating anything when cycling a tank but when I purchased a new master kit I suddenly had some small readings.

Your water looks fine. Could be bacteria or some kind of fumes or poison entering the tank. I had a friend who just fill his car with petrol and went home . At home while looking at tank ' date=' he decided to put his hand to move something and with in a short time all his crystal slowly died one by one. It just shows how sensitive these shrimps are.[/quote']

Still no clue what's going on, but all my seed shrimp are dead, and they aren't easy to kill. Only 4 shrimp left :(

Oh wow...I posted up similar pics of dead shrimp before but that was due to toxic fumes from neighbours 2cent motorbike. So sad to see so many dead...Once you figure out and sort the problem, I may be able to help you with some Crystals.

Maybe look into investing in a UV steraliser and chuck in a BIG bag of carbon (Deans advise to me).

Ok this is just weird now, the Purigen & carbon would definitely have stripped the internal parasite clear within hours so it can't be that either. :dejection:

OK now is the time to de- commission your tank. Sounds to me like one of your plants or something else , rock. wood etc has some substance in them that is effecting the water. Replace every plant ,boil wood and rocks, get new soil and start again give your tank a good scrub out with salt and rinse clean. Sorry Good luck

That's so devastating ! Are you able to post pics of your tank ? When was the last time to clean/maintain your filter ? My sons tank recently had a deviating lost too when the air pimp was accodentally turned off, ad the 02 level was extremely low....suggest this maybe a possibility ? Do you have good surface agitation ? Do you have a 02 test kit ? With the death of planaria etc, the effect would also push the availability of 02 ?

I'm afraid I have to agree with Wayne . It doesn't seem like it could be the parasite clear unless you got a contaminated batch but then others would have the same problem because I would think most of the stock in Aust would be the same batch.

u have both anubias nana and bolbitus in that tank dont you..?

ive heard both can be toxic to shrimp if they break..?!

Good thought honcho, but I haven't yet don't a plant trim? I too don't believe it was not the internal parasite stuff, but think maybe the product triggered something underlying in my tank perhaps? I'm going to have to regroup and think about my options. Either way I'm going to have to start over which is the frustrating part cos it took so long getting the tank built, cycled and scaped, only to lose all the shrimp that a good friend so kindly shrimp sat for me for many months.

and I cleaned the canister about 2-3 months ago. I only usually clean it every 5-6 months and even then it's verging on spotless

I haven't used co2 in this tank, that's an airline that's connected to a 30cm air stone running across the back on the tank. Wish there was just a simple answer so I could learn from a mistake and start again, but with this happening, it is making me feel a bit uneasy about getting more shrimp

Peppy, don't give up.... The issue may be a simple event. Is the 30cm airstone bubbling enough to agitate, and break the water surface ? Is the tank open or has a lid.....I reckon it's O2 issue.....

Hang in there Pep, there has to be an explanation & it could be something you've over looked. I agree that pulling it down & starting again is very demotivating but that what makes us stronger, more determined to get it right. I really hope you give it a go again :encouragement:

The air stone is really strong, and it sits below the spray bar so some bubbles hit the surface, and some are pushed into the tank by the current. I have a dog but he has not been bathed in ages. I also avoid letting him into the fish room as I hate finding his hair floating in my tanks. The tank is an open top braceless cube.
