Howdy :)

I just found this forum, I'm a member of some of the other shrimp forums. In the past I have not posted all that much but hope to in the future when I get my tanks organised again. I'm from Melbourne and I currently keep RCS and CRS. I will hopefully be adding some new shrimp very soon as well.

Cheers :)

Welcome Trav,

Post away to your hearts content. Considering you keep shrimp, I won't hold being from Melbourne against you:congratulatory:.

Don't be afraid to ask any questions.

Thanks guys, I will pop up some pics when I get the tanks sorted. I lurked in the shadows over at the other place but will try be more active over here.

Dean: I lost most of my CRS over time, the parameters were all spot on but they all started to go one at a time. I had a few left and introduced some lower grade females to boost my numbers and it worked I had 100+ shrimplets and then almost overnight they were all dead except for three of my originals. Turns out that the substrates stopped buffering and the PH jumped to well above 7.0 rapidly, I pulled the three survivors out and put them in with my cherrys and they survived. I had a few spare bags of substrate so I started that tank from scratch and the three CRS males have been in there happy as for over a month now, just need some female company. :)

Up Aqua Shrimp Sand. Two out of the four tanks are still fine, they did not have much live stock in them as I was using them to experiment with different pairs. I think that the soil was not deep enough as I only used two bags per 45cm cube.

G'day Trav80....with the expertise in this forum, I'm sure they'll work out, and avoid the mass loses you'd experienced.....The most important investment is in the setup......once done correctly, and a good understanding of water parameters etc...is learnt (from this forum), the true hobby of keeping, breeding and then selective breeding these shrimps can be focused upon, and the real fun begins....

Post some pics, ask some question, and after you've absorbed it all, and feel that you're ready (and your tank), I"ll send some shrimps over to you to kick start your breeding program !

Welcome Trav80! Sorry to hear your losses. Hope you have better success next time. Soil buffering will last only for so long. Certainly concern when my soil will stop to buffer. Adding fluvic grains might help?

I normally test all parameters weekly and twice on pH and TDS/conductivity.

Welcome Trav:D

sorry to hear about ypur prevoius experiance with your shrimp:sorrow: but i think that is part of the challenge of keeping these shrimp not surviving THRIVING! and once you get it you will hardly ever have any problems

welcome:cheerful:

I took the gamble and jumped straight into high end CRS rather than start on cherrys or even low end CRS. I have learnt a lot from my loses and am ready to start again with CRS.

Hey mate welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear about your Shrimp. Just wondering how long you had the shrimp sand in the tank for before it stopped buffering?

Cheers.
