Shrimps and lights on 24hrs?

Just wondering if there's any shrimp issues with leaving the light on 24/7 for my grow out tank? Just have some natives and cherries in there. Or does plants need light off as well?

If they had a place to hide in the dark to sleep the shrimp would be okay, But that's not really ideal. All living things need light/dark periods plants included.

I think you'd just end up with mass algae Issues, Your plant growth would stunt as they really need darkness as part of the photosynthesis and Cherries that are not really happy, and use more electricity to do so.

No real gain in leaving the lights on for 24 hours. Can I ask why you wanna leave them on for 24 hours?

The grow out tank is in the garage where there's no natural light at all. Also, the LED light has silly touch on-off switch that can't be used with timers and sometimes I forget to turn on or off...

No natural light on a tank can be a good thing. My nano gets no natural light and I have no algae issues and the plants thrive. Tanks with direct sunlight or lots of natural light tend to get algae issues.

I really wouldn't leave the lights on 24/7 personally. I'd prob look at selling the LED light and getting something that can be used with a timer. Or trying to do something that makes turning them off part of my routine.

Fair call. I will be replacing the lights soon but will have to endure with it for now.

Easily solved, get one of these...

He'll turn it on and off for you....and I don't mean Homer :).

Like everyone else is saying too much light = trouble.

I dnt think an entire week of blackout would be very good. Plants wont be looking too good and neither will the shrimps. Just put a timer/alarm on your phone to turn on/off the lights :)

I think every living creature needs a period of dark to rest.

Although shrimp will survive and thrive with 24/7 light, they will not enjoy it.

I find my shrimp like to hide under pieces of driftwood from time to time especially if they are pregnant
