So my Endlers just had their first fry....

...and I was lucky enough to be able to watch the birth of those tiny fish. :encouragement:

Somehow I thought Endlers would not eat their fry but as soon as the babies were there my endlers (even the tiny males) started munching on them :cower:!

So I caught the Mum and put her into a small tank until the rest of her fry were born and I put them in my shrimp tank until they grow a bit bigger.

There is also still 1 or 2 babies left in the endler's tank, hpefully they will survive.

I know I'm repeating myself....but I NEED MORE TANKS :smiley_simmons:

Wonderful lucky you were there to save the babies. Now you know why you can't keep fish in with shrimp anything small enough to fit in their mouth get s eaten. Welcome to the MTS club:victorious:

Endlers have a bad habit of doing that. Mine eat $50 a pop wild Betta fry :| At least until i get another tank.

Congratulations though! They grow quick!

Congrats Garny, good save with the fry :encouragement: I've never experienced mine eating their fry, maybe mine are too well fed, lol :D

What wilds do you have Chris? I've got Macs & Channoides :victorious:

Channoides and Foerschi at the moment, hoping for a few more and some of the rarer anbantoids later too (dario dario, oh my god, so beautiful).

Lucky you with the Macs! Breeding for you?

I lost the adult male I had, literally lost it, couldn't find a trace of him anywhere & he was holding before he disappeared, so I got four more fry & at least one of them has started to show male colours, I'm going to put him with the adult female soon & hopefully another one will colour up when he's gone :victorious:

Channoides are awesome too, just like a mini Mac :encouragement:

Foerchi are from the Unimaculata family, same as Macs? Giant mouthbrooder :encouragement:

Yeah Foerschi are big mouthbrooders! I lost my female to jumping though a while back and then one of my males decided he didn't like the other after playing nice for 6 months :(

I'll stop stealing this thread now.

Channoides are nice but they are tooo easy to breed (once they start to breed there is no stopping them) I ended up with over 100 fry in few months (3m 2f) at times the male would go hold a couple rounds without eating (as soon as fry are released they have another batch of eggs in mouth) as they are moothbrooders, I have to seperate them for some RR and even then the girls try to spit eggs through the breeder net! As for wilds I would have to say Macrostomas rule!

Here are a few pics of my colony before I sold them to make room.

Here's a male and a female, think he might be into boy's though seeing as he is the only one that hasn't held (or he gobbles em).

They do not! They are not cute AT ALL!

God those macs are nice.

I think i'm allowed a new tank in the garage, might try my luck for a rack and see if i can get a few new anbantoids going (sparkling gouramis, dario dario, paradise fish :o).

You guys would love Dario Dario, not even big enough to eat a shrimp. Females probably couldn't even manage week old shrimplets.

Ineke! Help me! They are not talking about endlers! :dejection:

edit: just googled Dario dario. They are very cute indeed. So tiny! :encouragement:

Ok, ok, we've got to get this thread back on track, Endlers are cool & it's great to see yours finally bred :encouragement:

p.s. @ mr_c, you gotta check out Licorice Gouramis, my favourite dwarf gourami, chocolates are cool too :D

Endlers will grow really fast outside in the shade in summer, i had a colony go from 10 to 100 outside in a few months. Then i tried to see if they would winter alright :( nope.

They also will pick at algae, but won't make any serious damage out of it. To feed the endler fry you can use crushed egg yolk, twice a day. Or BBS or the smaller species of seed shrimp.

p.s The licorice are so nice, hear they are finnicky, beautiful in a planted tank though. Wish we had samurai gourami here.

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Hi Guys,  Does anyone know where to buy PRL shrimps in WA, not the CRS please. Thanks Regards

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
