Yep, this is why i've gone very minimal in my new rack! Got very fed up of my planted tanks for my shrimp!

if your setting up a tank from scratch then this is my recipe for successful breeding.

tank- minimum 80ltr

filtration- canister & sponge filters

substrate- benibachi (minimum 6cm depth)

substrate additive- Bee max

water- Ro/Di unit

water additives- saltyshrimp bee shrimp mineral GH+

Pens- EC or TDS (low range)

Foods- kale tablets or ambitious

plants- moss

keep the tank as stable as possible. premix all your water for changes with saltyshrimp before adding to tank.

top up with pure RO only. keep EC/TDS as close as possible with every water change.

keep the bottom of the tank with minimum amount of things on it.

add shrimp and breed :)

Depending on stock level / filter demands, but I generally do a 5% weekly water change, and a filter clean/rinse every 4-6 week. Seems to work best for me.

Oxydator - breaks down H2O2 into O2 and H20 .....

It increases the amount or oxygen in you water ..... to keep it simple.

I would assume bacter100 would be fine! I have used Benibachi / borneowild / mosura

Ph varies from 5.5 to 6.5. Mine is 5.6-5.8 but I think most people keep them around ph 6 ish.

Thanks, and I have/did, was sitting at 7.1 previously. I regard PH of secondary importance, as long as it's <7. Other WP like GH, TDS....etc is of more importance. A higher PH only becomes a real issue if the water quality is compromised.

he still needs to find someone to supply the shrimp, and most good breeders will have taken note of this thread already :) but i think its good to be asking all the right questions before the investment and also if you setup for the high end than every other lower type of shrimp will be easy :)

As many of us have experienced big losses when rushing into the TBs that is why we advise baby steps and go through the Cherry, CRS/CBS, TBs stages, Gain the experience first making sure you can keep the other types alive first before stepping into the $$$ shrimp. As a big loss is enough to turn you off the hobby for good.

Understand completely!! Id be stupid to rush out n buy them without doing all my research first considerin the cost lol currently keeping crs and rcs too but saw these and have been mesmorised since...

At least you can admit it & are very keen to learn, we are all here to help you & answer any question you have about TB's & how to keep them but as I mentioned earlier, they aren't a beginners shrimp & it will be a pretty expensive exercise to learn on if something goes wrong, most people start with cherries, move on to crystals & then give TB's a crack. We don't want to to spend thousands of dollars on shrimp to loose them quickly, not fun at all :encouragement:

Lol saying what everyone was thinking!

But good on you Biggie for doing your research because many people don't. I'm pretty sure it'd be a kick in the teeth to any breeder to sell to someone who hasn't and have the shrimp die. You'll do we'll by listening to some of the people on this forum. Most want you to do well rather than make money.

i know they are difficult and hard to keep let alone breed but i do want to pick as much info

as possible to best prepare myself for what i want
