Recently someone posted a time table of egg hatching at different times can anyone point me to it please or maybe just answer my question. I have a berried Michling I know she got berried on the 1/5/13 but she is still hanging on to the eggs. She hasn't dropped and become berried again as I see her every day. I watch her closely because she is my first berried crystal so extra special. I though 30 days was maximum but obviously not. Any one have their females berried this long? Temp in her tank 22/23.

cheers

No pretty sure she hasn't ive watched her every day and she was always berried plus no babies in the tank. I know she could have dropped the berries and got berried again that night but I haven't seen her not berried. :encouragement:

Ineke, I always write down the date as due the same date the next month, so if she was berried on 1/5/13, I write her down as due on 1/6/13.

That way you get a nice surprise when they are born and don't stress so much. Try it?

Problem already solved- I got todays date mixed up when rewriting our calender -thought today was the 2/6

I do write down the date Ninja and do as you do DUH I lost a whole week. I've even told hubby off for not getting his monthly blood test done but that's not due til the 30/5. i hate it when that happens! plus side now Ive got back another week:cheerful:

LOL ineke! I read that first part and thought jeez you were being rather impatient, it's not even been 4 weeks yet... But she still has a few days left... :encouragement:

she should drop soon, fingers crossed for you! Crystal shrimplets are the best :)

I feel such a fool even had to apologise to hubby for giving him grief about his blood test:cower: Thats the trouble when you don't work time just runs into itself and you forget which day of the week it is- first time I lost a whole week though:o

Now I have another week of excitement -each morning when I go into the shrimp room I quickly check out her tank to see if she has had them!!!:encouragement:

Yeah i lose track of days sometimes on my time off... I try not to time my shrimps pregnancies for this same reason!

you'll love the crystal babies, I'm so excited for you! I have so many right now, my CBS breed faster than my red cherries!

That's great Torface I can't seem to get my Crystals to breed but then the majority of them I have only had about a month, also the yellows don't seem to do anything. That's why I'm keeping such a close eye on this girl she is my first Crystal/Michling to be berried so really looking forward to first lot of non cherry babies. :encouragement:

Maybe it's cos you watch them too much... They don't want to do the dirty while you're looking lol

i have like 25+ babies and maybe 5 more berried CBS girls, it's insane :encouragement:

Well done you! You must be doing something right. I'm sure mine will start eventually all the WP's are good, feeding a good variety of food and definitely males and females so now it's just a waiting game and patience,

Yep, well you have one berried girl so it is beginning :)

And thanks, I was doubting that I could even keep CBS alive so to have them so happy that they are breeding so much really pleases me :)

I think my problem is I was interfering too much, moving shrimp around , moving things to clean under etc , I am cycling my last tank now and then the moving will stop. Luckily my crystal tank was done first so they will be left alone.

I haven't seen her today but last night she kindly showed me her belly and they are all light brown although one did look a bit darker than the others I think she has 10 eggs unless they can be double layered. She often doesn't come out until later in the day. Hopefully I will be able to tell later .

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Hi Guys,  Does anyone know where to buy PRL shrimps in WA, not the CRS please. Thanks Regards

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
