Benibachi Cycle?

Recommended Posts

JohnH

I added Benibachi soil to one tank in my 4 tank rack system yesterday. I've isolated the tank so it isn't running through the sump and it just has a sponge filter running in it.

The water has cleared today so I gave the water a test and it is reading 0.5 ppm of ammonia. Should I leave the tank isolated and let it cycle by itself or should I let the tank run through the system and just do water changes on the whole system? My rack system is cycled and the 3 other tanks have shrimp in them, but not huge amount, so the bacteria colony in my sump would have to play catch up = mini cycle. Thoughts?

Perhaps do a WC to the isolated tank, and run it through the system. Check for ammonia after 4+ hours. Another 5-10% WC wouldnt hurt ....

I have done the same thing, gunna do a water change on that tank only then run it through the system at a really slow pace. Just a bit more than a dribble.

Cool, I did a water change in the Benibachi tank and have set the flow at a dribble through the sump system to it.

Hey guys, I noticed a couple of days ago that one of my female rocket killies has some sort of disease or injury on her side, and I have no experience with fish diseases at all, so can I get some help with working out what it is and what to do about it? One of my female endlers also has a little white line on the end of her tail, and I just noticed this as well. Please help me with identifying the problems and fixing them. Turned into a ghost town in here, lol.   PH is down to 5.9-6.0 for some reason. All I’ve changed is the Rock was removed and a few small almond leaves added. I know those can bring the PH down a hair. Any idea what might be causing the issue? I was planning on keeping Some Jade Neos, I don’t know that they would like 5.9-6.0 very well. Thoughts?   I’m struggling here and I don’t know wtf to do. I’d love is someone could help me out here.

Update for anyone interested.Rock was removed, Ph and TDS is down, over the last few days it’s crept down to around 190TDs after small water changes. Something that want happening with even larger changes before. PH seems to be down around 6.5. I hope it stays at that level, all inhabitants look to be doing well.

IME, the healthiest and highest quality has always buying directly from hobbyist, usually a small setup in their garage or fish room. Next was specialty store/importer, last is the local TFS, both often having stock that has been imported, transported and kept in less than ideal conditions... Buying directly from hobbyist has always produced the best results for me...

Did boil a few times, the water wasn’t completely clear when I stopped cleaning it. So they should be getting some tannins. I was able to remove all but one rock, I have one more piece to put in in its plAce today.   Right on. I’m originally from Ohio, and I’ve been scoping out Flip’s videos and website for a few weeks now. Looks like I’ll be ordering from either Flip or AquaHuna after I get this tank works out completely.   TDS is already down slightly after removing the rock and doing a small water change. I also took the opportunity to remove some plants I wasn’t a fan of and replace them. Indian Almond Leaves came in today too, but my BacterAE is delayed. Thanks Amazon.🙄🙄
