  • 3 weeks later...

I have an update on my CRS, she has released he little shrimplets but unfortunately so has the two female CBS I had in the tank. The two of them were both berried when I put them in there, I put them in there to hopefully make some more mishlings & one of them berried straight away after release but my rack didn't cycle in time for me to put the her in one of the tanks to keep my F1 mishlings separate. My only saving grace is that they are CBS & she was CRS, can't tell the difference yet but I'm sure it will get easier as they get older. I really hope these tanks cycle before the F4 mishling drops cause they will be a lot harder to tell the difference as she is CBS :dejection:

Oh Dear! Never mind they may still turn into something nice. My female mishling got berried to unknown male- she was in with all CRS and 1 CBS Mishling- all babies are CBS so hoping the mishling she was with was a male- it committed hari kari not long after but the babies look good.

That was confusing Squiggle LOL!

Probably doesn't help, but those CBS may throw some CRS...

Squiggle, you won't be able to tell at all unfortunately. I'd suggest relocating your Mishling girl now so you can tell, otherwise you need to call them CBS or CRS as you can't confirm who came from who. Plus of course your CRS can throw CBS shrimplets an vice versa, only way to tell is separate tanks I'm afraid

More tanks needed ! LOL. Selective breeding must be done strictly, otherwise it can send the entire program into the "dark ages".

Yeah I know, I'm so dirty the tanks hadn't cycled yet, I'm pretty sure it's done now so I think I'm going to move the Mishling tomorrow. I did an ammonia test, it was just off yellow & not quite green of any shade, so my WP is

Ammonia 0-0.1

Nitrite 0

Nitrate 0-5ppm

PH 5.7

KH 1

GH 4

TDS/EC 101/200

Temp 22-23

Hopefully everything goes well acclimatizing them :victorious:

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Hi Guys,  Does anyone know where to buy PRL shrimps in WA, not the CRS please. Thanks Regards

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
