Shadow Panda

Hi everyone, I have never seen a male Shadow Panda, do they exist? I am wondering if its a sex related gene?????

You could be on to something there Ninja a bit like the fire and painted reds. It happens in other animals why not shrimp?

I'm guessing there is, I was reading another website & this is a quote from it on the "(Shadow) Panda" :encouragement:

"The Panda Shrimp can be difficult to sex until some time after sexual maturity is reached. It is nearly impossible to identify a saddle. Once they are well into sexual maturity size and body shape can be used to identify the sexes as females will be a little larger and have a rounder undercarriage as is the case with most Caridina cantonensis species."

Not really I think. Fire and Painted Reds do exist at the higher grades in Males, overseas they're quite common. Here we have a limited gene

pool and I don't think we've seen any real attempt put into Reds as they're that, only Reds and most people want something else besides

reds so they don't get the development they require to reach the same grade. Do bear in mind you're also comparing a 'grade' as opposed to

an underlying pattern which may be more genetically inclined towards males, potentially a dominance thing.

The other thing to bear in mind is Pandas/King Kongs/Ruby Reds/Wine Reds and Blue Bolts do take a bit longer to reach maturity than CRS

and CBSs so with the delay in reaching maturity its also possible more are lost at a younger age. I reckon Males are just tougher ;-)

That's a great question ninja. I've personally not focused on shadow's, as I feel their colour (blue) intensity is to do more with WP and mood. A higher Mg:Ca ratio can turn the colour on, and I havent experience a "shadow" panda maintain their blue tinge throughout their life span....I have several shadow shrimplets/juvi's ATM, and their "shadow" comes and go......

But to answer you question Judy, I don't know ....

I'm guessing that if they are telling you how to tell the difference between sexes then there must be both in existence, otherwise why bother explaining the difference & how would they know if there is a difference? :confused: :encouragement:

Yeah, they're pretty average dude, I have heard a rumor about the quality of your shrimp, hahaha :victorious:

Nah, come on Dean, these look substandard for you. You don't want those influencing your gene pool. You really need to pass

them off as culls ;-) Sure a few people would be more than happy to alleviate you of them. Thinking of you of course ;-)

+1 if they don't glow in the dark than they are not on par with your usual quality mate, should get rid of them incase they interbreed with others and bring the quality of all your pandas down, just so happens I'm setting up a rack so as a favor to you ill take them of your hands. Ill even put up for postage costs.

By the way Dean thanks for the above, puts my mind to rest that there are male Pandas around.

I have a female Shadow and a female Shadow KK, so hopefully they will produce a male for me down the track.

I really like the shape of those guys, compared to some I've seen.
