So im finally fully moved in to my brand new apartment and finally got internet (thankfully) :triumphant:

Ive got a spare room in the apartment which im planning on starting up ONE rack and the rest will follow as nature takes its course.

Ill be making the stand from scratch as ill need a custom size. Ill be running 3 tanks drilled in the back or base.. still undecided if someone can throw me some pros and cons running into a reservoir tank like brother marcus' rack then back up the top using a canister hooked up to UV and a chiller. Sponge filter in each tank for extra circulation.

Each tank will measure 800 x 600 x 350

So two questions:

- Drill the base or the back?

- Divide in half or quarters?

I drilled the back on mine so there will be less stuff in the tank but that way pretty much dictates the water level with the outflow. If you're going to have a hole for the return then it's definitely in the back. Sumps are great cause the increase the system volume which help make it more stable, make water changes easier, are more adaptable to your specific needs but they can be noisy. Are thirds an option? :encouragement:

Drilling from the bottom glass means you can put the rack closer against the wall but there will be a pipe inside your tank . Drilling on the back can avoid the pipe inside your tank but you can't put the rack against the wall because of the plumming however you can adjust the water level if you put another pipe inside the elbow.did you see my plumming on my tank?

When I constructed my rack, I deliberately made it using a 90x90mm Timber Post, so that the tank can be drilled from the side, and all the pipework can be ran between these post. Win Win .... no unsightly pipework from the bottom, and the rack can be pushed hard against the wall.

Absolutely genius marcus. Great idea! forgot to less out the stand in my tank dimensions so ill be loosing a few cm length. Might just simplify it and make them 600 x 600 x 350 divided in half so that i can have an eheim 2215 on each shelf pumping up to cascade down.

My tanks were also build with a mirrored rear panel. Helps with the viewing and finding of hiding shrimpies....

The mirror is an excellent idea, I went with the standard black paint myself, otherwise I'd want mirrors on all sides. Real Shrimp Porn!

itll be too hard to see the mirror backing on a 2ft deep tank so ill keep it basic and go with black.

When I first started keeping fish all my tanks had mirrored backs and it was a great way to see the back of the tank. Don't see many tanks with mirrors anymore.

600x600x350 divided $80 each with lids. $20 per hole drilled. Each tank needs a hole drilled in the divider and the side which equals $120 per tank or i can drill the side one for free which drops the price $100 each or i can have no divider and itll be $65 a tank with lids. So many options.

Good price for for a 2x2ft...you talking about the one in Moorebank?

That's pretty cheap compared to what I paid for my 4 ft. Make sure you see a sample of workmanship before you buy. Some of the shops sells cheap tanks but the silicon is abit messy.

Ive got a tank made by them but i paid extra for a cleanish silicon job. If i get them to make it ill make sure its not a complete mess. Waiting for billy from aquaristics to reply with my quote.

I got my tank made from the same guys that do aquaristic. It's expensive but the silicon is spot on, near perfect. He also uses black silicon.

Try abyss aquarium aswell. They are making my 60x40x40, black background, 2 removable acrylic mesh dividers for $160.

They will charge $48 for a 60x40x40 on its own. $10 to drill a hole.

      It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

      I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding?       Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

      You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
