Hello, Name's Triggs

Triggs

Recommended Posts

Hey all what's cracking.

My name's Triggs, I'm a 25 year old from Melbourne.

Been into shrimps now for round 6-9 months give or take, It all started down a local dam when I was trying to catch a Yabby to put into my new tank at the time.

Didn't get any yabbies but what I did catch were these little clear prawn looking things. Looked kinda cool so I thought I'd put them in my tank and do some google work and find out what they're and if anyone kept them in Aquariums.

Got home and started researching and found them to be "Glass shrimp". The more research I did the more beautiful species, varieties, and variations I found of fresh water shrimp.

fast forward to now, And my love for shrimp has just grown more and more over time. I now have a bunch of Cherries I've been learning with in a 20L nano setup with java moss, water sprite and half a dozen anubias nana petites.

I've got a few other tanks I plan to set up in the near future for CBS and one for Glass shrimp however, I am currently looking at moving to a new place so have decided not to set them up until after the move.

I look forward to reading all your posts and threads, And thank you for setting up a forum dedicated to Australian shrimp keepers.

- Triggs

Thanks mate.

Like you said, better to have all the Aussie Shrimp Keepers in the same place than scattered around a few different sites.

This site has many members who will easily lure new keepers in, Yourself included. people like you and Nogi have been quite a great help in my learning of shrimps.

How do I get access? Is it a post thing/time thing or??

:-D Thanks again for all the welcome's everyone.

As soon as I manage to fix my camera i'll take some snaps to show you all my tanks. my 20L is all grown in and mature now and without self bias I think it's looking really nice quite proud of my efforts with it :P

Got a few projects I'm gonna start when I finally move to the new house, and after I sell off a few Guppies I'm gonna set up a Yabby tank which you may all be interested in seeing also.

Thanks again for the welcome :)

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Hi Guys,  Does anyone know where to buy PRL shrimps in WA, not the CRS please. Thanks Regards

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
