I tried some purigen in my tannin stained tank overnight, the product was recommended by another member. I am immensely impressed by the difference it has made in my tank overnight. It is almost crystal clear it will obviously need a bit more time to clear it completely and I realise some things in the tank will remain stained but none the less a great improvement. I didn't have a filter or water stream to use the purigen in so I cut the sponge of my internal power filter and put the purigen at the bottom of the filter to get the best influx of water passing over it and then replaced the top bit with the half sponge. Very impressed and thanks for the tip. I hate the smell of the product though YUK

You're too funny Ineke, I can't believe you actually smelt it, lol :congratulatory: I've learn't long ago not to smell aquarium products, I had a bad experience with an off microworm culture, long story short, I almost threw up, won't be doing that again in a hurry, lol. :stupid: I'm glad you had great results. This is a product I swear by & am glad that others are using it with the results they desire, it is an awesome product. Great work Ineke! :victorious:

No Squiggle I didn't sniff it LOL I have very sensitive nose and certain smells just are not nice, to me purigen has a very strong smell and yes I rinsed it according to instructions. When I worked I could go into a room and pick up smells before others had even looked at patients- infected wounds, urine infections and even the smell that a person was not going to be with us for very long- some say it's a gift I call it a curse- can't say what it is about the purigen just YUK

My Purigen arrived in the mail on Wednesday and I put it into my sump without sniffing it. Maybe I'm abnormal? lol :cool-new:

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
