Dead On Arrival- dead.

Okay, so while I was back I sold some excess shrimp and posted them in the mail.

Breather bag, Insulated foam box.

Sent 4 packages.

Got messages today.

guy 1: bag exploded 10 yellow cherries dead.

guy 2: bag exploded 2 ss CRS dead.

guy 1 was stressing 'Jonny I spent so much money etc'

guy 2 was like 'oh well, I bought them online off you so bad luck for me'

me: That really sucks. Don't worry I will refund your money back.

guy 1: don't do that just replace them if you can

me: that's the last yellows I had. I'll refund your money back-

guy 2: oh, just fix me up a good deal next time I get shrimp off you.

Yeah so the packages arrived with dead shrimp and I will replace or refund no worries. Sucks that it happened but it's part of the game. Next time I will send a plastic water bottle in an insulated foam box now that it's cooler. Guy 2 was happy for me to give him a sweet deal next time as he had bought shrimp off me before.

Unfortunately it happens, I've had one bad lot going north. Have learnt to only use new Kordor bags or 500ml drinking bottles. Never

use bags that have previously been used, they just don't seem to last.

My bags were brand new- it wasn't Kordon.

Need to buy Kordon or go the bottle.

That's unfortunate ! Curious to know how they were packed...been several incidents overs the past 3-4 weeks of exploding bags...... Good on ya for keeping with the SKF COC...

These shrimp were sold on a face book shrimp page not SKF- but I still carry on the good conduct' date=' it's only fair.

tight enough I suppose.

I'm going to go the bottle method, I've recieved shrimp this way in the mail and frowned upon it, but least it wont leak or explode.

Only thing the shrimp will splash around more.

What kind of breather bag did you use? If not Kordon? Dean double bags with Kordon no issues what so ever!

I've had shrimp delivered in a bottle and it took 3 days the shrimp were fine, the bottle was wedged tight in a foam box

Even if the bottle is wedged tight, it is the amount of water in the bottle that is the problem, because the bottle is not breathable like a Kordon bag it can not be filled full and that is what causes the shrimp to splash about.

Yeah I've had bags few, only one Kordon has split though but I've had a couple of a different brand breather bags split, also it's very interesting to see different people's reactions to the same situation

It wasn't Kordon. Double bagged? Damn, that would have saved them- wish I was better educated!

1 bag is touch and go- if it pops, dead shrimp, lesson learnt. Double bagged or hard container would be better.

So the odd mishap is par for the course. I have been at the Airport picking up Fish fillets and the guys beside me were picking up the mail, you would die it you looked at how they slam the Air bags around and drop them!!!!

I think it come down to who is handling your parcel on its journey

I had the same experience with that "bag" Jonny... 3 packages that bags have exploded and had a lot of casualties. Im back to using Kordon now and never had that issue again.

I've had a few issues like that too. So sad to hear mate :( we will get to the bottom of this. I've got a very good brand that people in aquariums use it might be worth a shot or kordon double bagged.... On another note will it stil breathe if double bagged?

I guess someone will have to do the experiment, one single bag with shrimp & one double bag with shrimp & see if they last as long as the single bag, I'm not keen to sacrifice my little guy for science though :dejection:

I can't imagine anyone having shrimps in kordan bags longer than that. If they survive that, it's good enough for me.

I read somewhere that double bagged still breathes but just at a lower rate to single.

I had some cherry shrimp last 2 weeks with no DOA in a single bag... Was waiting at their post office from the day after I sent it.

Double bags definitely work, but they must be dry when they go together.

Shrimp don't use much air anyway, compared to fish

I've sent many shrimp and fish all over Aus (in kordon bags) during my stay in the hobby and never have they busted on me. I don't even double bag to make sure gas exchange is the most efficient possible and have had no problems. Probably best to stay with the tried and tested.

Plastic bottles may be ok for cherry shrimp but I would never use them to send high end shrimp as in my experience that method is touch and go - I've had my fair share of deaths both recieving and sending.

I've had shrimp sent express on Wednsday and they didn't arrive until Monday afternoon - 5 days in breather bag- this was summer aswell!
