Tank backs.

Hi everyone, has anyone seen tanks with the backs painted a different colour to black, blue, green????

I've seen red tanks shows off the darker coloured fish very nicely.

back of my tanks are deep ocean blue colourbond colour from bunnings.

I've seen white before too but, I used to race R/C cars & used to custom airbrush all the body shells, you have to paint them from the inside so the paint job doesn't get damaged during races, so I've always thought about airbrushing an aquascape in reverse on the back of a tank, could look pretty good :encouragement:

If its a custom, a mirrored back so that the shrimps can be found/seen, or even a reflective Perspex, or a sick on mirror film ? The reflection off the mirror will also reflect all the aquascaping in the tank, so can't look more natural then that.

Most of my old fish tanks had mirrored backs but you don't see it much anymore. I used to really like them. I have learnt one thing along the way- don't sell off your tanks if you lose interest for a while!!!!!

I use a mid blue on the back of mine! remember dark colour gives you good colour in your fish with fair lighting and light or white washes your fish out because they are matching there back ground.

You will get told to do and use all sorts of weird things WHY I don't know, I just clean the back with metho and use a water base paint. If you are not touching the back of the tank it stays there.

The tanks I take out every week end to markets are done in water base and it is still there and I just chuck them in and out of the back of the ute 4 times each week end I go. The only draw back is the brush marks or roller marks, if you can use contact it is WAY better, I am using contact on the new market tanks.

I use black garbage bags taped onto the back (and sides for fish requiring a tank that is a bit quieter). Simple, cheap and effective.

That mirrored back is an excellent idea for shrimp! Why didn't i think of that?!

I currently use a sheet of black fabric that is sticky taped onto the back and sides. If it gets dirty, remove and wash, re stick. No need to buy new backgrounds every time you spill water all over the tank.

I'm going to get hubby to stick a mirror onto the back of my tank this week so will try and show before and after shots. I don't know why the mirror backed aquarium has gone out of vogue maybe mirrors are now too expensive .

I never clean the back of my tanks either and only do the sides and front when it gets too hard to see

I made one out of lil slate pieces from bunnings before.. looked nice but then i got paranoid n took it down because i thought it was leaking some thing because i wasnt sure it was slate and shrimp were dying :sorrow:

Ive made backings for cichlids with styro before.. i wonder if it would be safe for shrimps.. consideriing i use pond sealer paints ..

Looks really good shame you had to pull it down. Couldn't you put it on the outside to get the same effect but no leaching?
