I finally changed the substrate in my 30" tank and as it is the first tank that I have fully setup with lots of plants ( not counting the cubes) I am quite happy with the results - so are the cherries new babies born last night! post-12-139909860498_thumb.jpgpost-12-139909860502_thumb.jpgpost-452-139909860506_thumb.jpgpost-452-13990986051_thumb.jpg

The plants including some mosses you probably can't see have either been bought or given to me by MickeyG,(mosses) Guppyluv,(small java fern) Aquathumb ( a plant package I bought)and HexaD (a bucket of mosses and some stem plants that took me several days to divide and tie) thanks People.

Cheers

Thanks Torface I'm happy with it but it still looks like a fish tank not a shrimp tank!!! I'm waiting for my little shrimp tank to finish cycling but I stole some of the plants out of it so that doesn't look as good as it did but there is more room for the shrimp now.

Thanks Squiggle it's nice to do something and actually have all you need at hand. It took me nearly 3 months to squirrel away ( no pun intended lol) enough bits and pieces to do it in one go. I had a picture in my head and it turned out nearly as good as I wanted it to so pretty pleased.

You are a much more patient woman than I am :p my tank turned out nothing like I wanted because I couldn't immediately find what I wanted... It's such a mish mash lol

i love the stones :)

I am not really patient I was just slowly given or bought plants and didn't really know what to do with them so they just got put in with the RCS and eventually the tank looked a real mess as you can see in the other thread. Then at night when I was awake (chronic pain is a real downer and even though I take heaps of meds I'm often awake at night) I would think it all out and for once something worked out for me. The rocks came from a cheap shop $2 a bag and it took 3 , I accidentally got 3 identical bags and hadn't noticed the nice markings until I started putting them in the tank. They are really nice and keep the 2 different soils apart.

Thanks Bb and the next tank is not far away lol but now I haven't got the plants so may do a very minimal moss tank they always look nice when others do it.

I used to have heavily planted tanks, BUT love the simplicity of a moss/shrimp tank.....more focus on shrimp behaviour/interaction etc...

Picture of a mates tank I posted a while back .... mostly moss, few plants and lots of shrimps. Moss tanks can be absolutely breath taking too...

Now that's what I call a nice tank but mine will have to be more simplistic I'm running out of plants! I have a lot of moss that will need trimming eventually and that is what will be the main element in my next tank

Yes that's more how I want it. Will have to think about when I'm awake in the middle of the night LOL. that's a very nice tank leaving plenty of room for observing the shrimp. That's why I left the semi circle of black silica bare so I can actually see the shrimp. In my smaller tanks sometimes I can't see a single shrimp as there are so many hiding places.

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Hi Guys,  Does anyone know where to buy PRL shrimps in WA, not the CRS please. Thanks Regards

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
