Tying Moss to Tiles/Slates...

Can any one tell me please if you should cut all types of moss as per Aquathumb's video before tying it to tiles? I'm sitting here all ready to redo some moss but now not sure whether to cut it to tiny pieces or not.also at what stage should I trim fissidens it's getting tall but not spreading. Thanks

yes you can cut them all Imeke :) they all grow like that

Thanks Dean I waited so long I just decided to do it anyway. Tried the mesh Aquathumb used on 2 and tied the rest after cutting. Also tried one without cutting just to see how they go. I managed to do 8 small tiles and have a few more to do tomorrow. Thanks for your response. My new soil has gone into a spare tank and has cleared up nicely will do some water tests on Monday and hopefully put the motley crew in.

you can also superglue moss if you dont want to tie it on. thats what i did with my moss fissidens and nl java fern with no probs :)

Thanks Ozshrimp I have done that with quite a few of the more fiddley bits but I'm trying to experiment which way it grows the best. Some of the moss starts to grow and doesn't seem to attach very well when glued so thought I would try tying and using the netting to see which gives the best result. I have plenty of time so don't mind playing.

there was a thread on here somewhere if you had the patience showing someone grinding up US Fissiden and pressing it into a moist rock. Then keep the rock moist and wet for a week or so allowing it to attach properly before putting it in the tank.

I thought it looked absolutely awesome just got no suited rocks to do it to.

I think I saw that didn't they use some yoghurt mixed in with it? I will be trimming a tiny bit of Fissidens soon but like you no suitable rock . All I have are smooth ones.:encouragement:

hmmm no yoghurt just water spray gun, time patience and lava rock :)

I need to go for a walk down by the creek and see if I can find some nice rocks. If I boil them they should be safe shouldn't they , if they pass the vinegar test?

Can you cut mini pellia up and do the same ? It's a little coarser, isn't it ?
