Bummer, I really wanted that JBJ.

All my LFS are run of the mill "pet shops" and i doubt they'd stock chillers. Even if they did, they'd be pricey. The dedicated aquarium shops near me only seem to stock Teco...

We are in autum now and weather is starting to get cold. You have untill spring to get a chiller so there is no rush. Most people turn off there chiller during the cold season.

I'm in QLD and it's still warm. My living room tends to retain heat pretty badly so my tank sits at 27+ and I am meant to be getting my first CBS next week :(

Get the JBJ from Guppies then, Youre in queensland, they are in queensland so it shouldnt break in shipping. For $300 its a cost that even i would be happy replacing every so often.

Dont waste your money with guppies unless you are spending less than $50. They are renowned for their lack of customer service and you need that if you are spending a few hundred for warranty reasons. They wont even listen if it breaks during shipping.

Not really. Im just saying if thats the specific chiller he wants then get it. I bought a light that was only $50 and they managed to break it before it even arrived. Sent them an email and never heard back.

Hmm... Guppies is actually less than 5km from where I live but, strangely, they don't allow warehouse pick up. The chiller is $450ish which is a fair amount to lose if something goes wrong. Not really sure what to do now! :(

I remember reading over at AL they allowed someone to pick up from their warehouse. I dont think the issue with you is shipping but its about after purchase service particularly warranty

I just gave my LFS a call and they recommended an Aqua One chiller to me. I know they'll give me excellent after purchase service and ongoing advice so it might be worth buying from them even if it is a little more pricey. But does anyone rate the Aqua one chillers?

I asked Guppies about Warehouse pick up and they said it wasn't an option. So i have to pay $10 for shipping which i'd rather just pick up... pretty annoying!

  • 3 months later...

Which one did you end up getting torface? I'm going to dropping some hints for my birthday for one for my 3' tank.

Contradiction? LOL!

I own 2 JBJ Antatica chillers. Perfect for 2 foot tanks. Kept my tanks cool all last summer. Worth it! Super quiet compared to hailea

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
