Hydra & Planaria shrimp safe removal.

Worked for me too, not a single shrimp death and I'm pretty sure I overdosed... My biggest problem using powders is how to measure weight and dose correctly? I guess it's only drug dealers and pro shrimp keepers that have tiny scales ;)

Luckily enough, the powder is pretty safe if you over dose with it. Really the best way is to weigh it out on small scales, but I never have money available to impulse buy them when I see them, but I'm sure you can buy them on ebay.

Generally a level teaspoon is 5grams (and also 5ml). If you tip that powder and pretend to be a cocaine addict and cut the powder into roughly 5 equal portions, then you'll have approximately 1 gram.

I'd almost consider decent accurate scales a necessity, but you won't use them often, but when you need it, they're amazingly handy.

So i just noticed some hydra in my big tank. I've had a few planaria in my other tanks on/off but i've been manually removing them as i see them. Hydra gross me out, so i'm going to head over to Aquotix and buy some of this.

Is there a risk of an ammonia spike when they all die off?? Should I water change after? How much and when? Does Purigen affect the effectiveness of this product at all?

Torface and John it says 40% before dosage I think, ill check when i get home, but as I was too busy during the hydra outbreak I only did a 10% and then dosed as recommended. I never checked parameters throughout but everything went well, no plants melted, no shrimp died and no sign of hydra since.

I found 2 of these critters last night and scooped them out pronto.....looked online and found them to be Hydracarina - Water Mite,

Would the product on the thread do the job in gettin grid of them?

Do they come from plants into your tank?

Can someone just confirm for me if i did my treatment right, i got 5 ml of the powder (what a pain lol) i didnt know how much was in the spoon so put it in a neurofen syringe then mixed it with rain water and put it in the tank, now my understanding is the doseage should last 3 days or do i repeat for 3 days?

I'm pretty sure that 1 spoon is 5ml. And you dose again after 3 days

After speaking with Dean I purchased some internal Parasite Clear and used it with great results. After 2x of Deans F3/F4 mischlings dropped shrimplets in my tank, I could not see any of the shrimplets after a few says and got worried. I noticed a few planaria on the glass and also a few more on the substrate.

After 2 treatments I noticed the ammonia spike up to 0.5, so I think I had a massive amount of planaria in the substrate. I have not seen any in a few days and the TB and mischling adults are going strong. Sadly the planaria got all of the shrimplets before i treated and I'm pretty sure 3 were Panda/King Kong and one was a Wine Red :(

I can Highly recommend this product, I have previously used No Planaria and Panacur 100 with negative results on my shrimp and tank/media.

Well done Aquotix for sourcing such a fantastic product and well done Dean for testing it so thoroughly and reviewing it.

Thanks for your review Trav80 I need to use it too the little planaria are out during the day even though I have cut way back on feeding. Did you do a big water change prior to using it as the bottle recommends?

I assumed that bit was a translation error and the water change comes after the treatment. Doesn't make sense to do one before.

I only did around 10% between the two doses I used. I didn't want to do a massive WC just in case it caused issues, but the ammonia spike may have been reduced if I did larger WC. I was not worried about the ammonia spike as my PH is just below 5.0.

I had just normal pond snails which hitchhiked in on plants, they all dropped now there are white shells everywhere!

Why don't you catch one out and do a test in a container? Poor guinea pig....
