Hello everybody

Recommended Posts

I live in Tasmania and a couple of weeks ago I decided to set up a small tank for shrimp keeping.

Then I realised that shrimp of any kind are a bit (VERY) hard to come by down here in Tas.

Now I am hoping that somebody here in the forum might be able to point me in the right direction to where I could get cherry shrimp or glass shrimp in Tasmania.

My tank is a 30 L cube and so far only has plants and some bladder snails in it. :( Well, at least they are thriving.

So if anyone can help please let me know! :encouragement:

Cheers,

Garnelchen

Welcome mate.

Drive your car over to melbourne, buy some shrimp and drive back :)

Well concealing shrimp inside a bottle or other water holding object and posting it through the mail would be highly illegal!

Of course it would be....

That's why I was hoping that somebody down here already has got shrimp.

But is the importation of tropical freshwater shrimp to Tassie actually illegal or is it just very difficult and expensive?

I was only joking mate, well it is illegal but we on the east coast still send ship and plants to the west coast without any issues. I dont know why tassie was differ.

Well, I know somebody that had plants posted to them from the mainland, being unaware that there could be issues with quarantine.....no problems though!

If there is people over there posting shrimp to WA then there is a chance that the same has been done to TAS, right?

Thanks, Squiggle. Knowledgeable advice is very welcome. All I know so far is... well, pretty much NOTHING. :o

But I have always been fascinated by aquariums and those colourful little shrimp seem to be the perfect inhabitants for a small tank.

I am sure I will work something out eventually :)

What colour cherry shrimp are you after? Everyone has reds, I like yellows & blacks myself, there's also chocolate, blue, orange & I think green. These are the easiest & most forgiving to keep, also they breed pretty easily too :encouragement:

Yes, I was told that cherry shrimp are a good choice for beginners. I like red and yellow because I think they would look great against the plants in the tank.

I find the blue ones amazing too. Blue is my favourite colour :)

I'm trying to upload a picture of my (shrimpless) cube....not sure if this will work.
