Hi all,

I recently stuck my neck out and purchased a few low grade CRS. they are doing well looking good eating etc so why does it have to be 2 of the CRS are now crispy critters on the floor!!!!!! I have now been keeping shrimp since the end of December and never had an escapee!!! I only have red cherries and a couple of low grade yellow cherries plus the CRS. My cherries love their home!!!! Hope no more escapees, have plugged the opening where the leads and airline go in so hopefully there is no where else to escape!!!

Cheers

Ineke all I can say is, we all have to learn this the hard way (I am sure many if not all members have been through this, I know I have lost a few $$ on crispy shrimp). Now you know to either use a lid with (small openings) or lower the water level. Sorry for your loss!

ThanksCNgo ,have to keep the water level up so the pump in the sump does run dry. will have to plug any escape routes

Yes, there's many occasion in the past where crispy shrimps were found...but keeping good WP, and ample food will keep them happy within the tanks. I have not really made any further safe guards, but have learnt to keep my WP great, and do not find crispy shrimps for a while now, so IMHO, WP, and ample food plays a part too.......

+1 to what Bluebolts said.

The only crispy shrimp I have found are those leaping out of the fish tank when they get spooked by the fish.

Water parameters are good now and yesterday I had to suction food out as there was too much so hopefully they just went a wandering!!!! Also plenty of moss for them in there

I've had this happen, I have a tank with SS CRS & I didn't notice any escapees but when I got my Golden Bee pair the girl crawled out the first night, I was gutted, I sealed the tank up & when I got a new girl she started trying to do the same thing. I was watching her like a hawk & it seems I have blocked her exit, thankfully. While I was watching the GB girl I had a quick peek at the SS CRS & saw one of the girls was trying to climb out, I looked behind the tank & was horrified to find three girls all crispy, so I sealed up that tank too. It seems to be that Bee shrimp like to climb out & when i was talking to Gbang he said it's mostly girls that do this, don't know why

Hi Squiggle I know we all go through it but it always seems to be the best that are lost. I kept cherries in that tank and apart from them getting into the sump they never strayed. Never mind these things are sent to try us and although I don't like losing any animal it is still a bit easier to take that it wasn't an expensive shrimp- ooo I feel awful saying that- just because it doesn't have the right pattern doesn't make it any less a shrimp!!!!

Hi Mick LOL yes a bit deep never mind. My cubes all have quite a gap around the edges not much I can do about that and the water level is governed by the pump which needs to be in a fixed position. will hope for the best but if another one escapes I will put them in another tank and keep the cubes for the cherries. they didn't try to escape!!!!

Cheers

I use gaff tape to make a lip around the top & the lid sits on top of it, sealing the tank :encouragement:

Hi Squiggle I know we all go through it but it always seems to be the best that are lost.

So what you do is pay less attention to the favorite shrimp and more to the culls that way if you do lose any it will be the culls, thinking they are the favorites! Reverse psychology, seems to work on kids might work on shrimp as well?
