Fishmosy's zebra shrimp biotope tank

Upgraded the circulation in the tank because I wasn't happy with how little the water was being moved around by the air stone. Used an Aquaclear 30.

Black outlet pipe in the foam.

Short vid of the shrimp. Much more active once the water flow increased.

That's a job well done right there. You must be very happy after the long setup time to finally see a berried girl.

Thanks guys, yeah 4 months of set-up and still a little bit to do, but its only been 4 weeks since they went in, so I'm pretty chuffed with that.

Good one mate, its good to see some going to produces away from FNQ and the long set up time was my fault cause I am a slacko

It was a good thing, meant the tank was completely cycled before the shrimp went in.

Hi Ben, Nice to see that both our Zebra girls have given up being shy and getting down to work. Now the waiting period comes,

Good luck mate!

Added some more leaves to the tank today, these guys just demolish leaves like anything. Biggest tip I can give anyone wanting to keep these is to make sure you keep leaves in with them (thanks Northboy for this tip). The zebs were all over them when they went in. Also dropped in a bit of thread algae. They initially poked around in it but didn't eat it like I've seen cherries and longirostris do.

They will eat IAL fairly rapidly but as this is a biotope tank I'm using native leaves. They seem to prefer the eucalypts/gum tree leaves out of the ones I've tested so far. I only feed leaves from a nearby creek that are browned and submerged, after carefully checking for hitchhikers.

  • 3 weeks later...

So I either have another berried female or the original female still hasn't dropped yet. Inclined to think it is a new berried female as this one has white stripes and the other didn't.

Don't know if the juveniles are surviving, whether they have hatched, whether I just can't see them. Kinda frustrating to be so close to breeding them but yet so far.

At least they are getting berried Fishmosy thats a great start and the little blighters are very good at hiding. I know I have at least 18 babies( not natives) in one tank I rarely see more than 6 in a day and yet as the markings are different I know they aren't always the same six. Good luck with your breeding program:encouragement:

Ben roll the leaves over and look for the young there

You get to see Zebs in the wild on Sunday with your own eyes and there has been no rain so its looken GOOD, unlike when poor Wayne was up.

As you well know, this house is ruled by 4 legged people, so 1 more wont hurt and there is room in your room for her.
