Fire Yellow Cherry

Having a few yellow's coming through with a gold stripe on it's back. Pretty sure it's fairly common, and there's some reference to them being described as Fire Yellow Cherries..... Question...

1. Are they Fire Yellow Cherries ?

2. Should they be separated from the "normal" yellow cherry ?

3. Are they common ?

I have some reds with this trait, but non of my yellows have it. I thought the "Fire" cherries were the solid, uniform colour. Perhaps the cherries with the stripe need a totally different classification.

On a side note, I also have some chameleon shrimp with the stripe as well.

I have seen on some overseas forum them seperated and a whole group in a photo with just that on them. I cant remember what they were called but they were definitley a different line. I had a few like that before aswell!

Hi BB I don't have yellows but as JohnH stated I have some deep red cherries with the same or similar stripe So it would be interesting to find out if we should actually be keeping them seperate. I have shrimplets from them but they are a bit too small to see it the stripe is on any of them. Still don't have a deep red male!!!!

Of my colony of 20ish yellow shrimp 1 large female has the stripe. She has never been berried and I have had her over 6 months :(

I believe they are called Fire Yellows overseas. A little bit confusing as I would consider fire yellows to be the equivalent of fire reds that we have here, i.e. Solid colour.

I have had a few come through my selective breeding project, but I steered away from them as I wanted to focus on uniform solid colour. I think it would be great to set up a breeding project just for them, as they are beautiful.

Agree with heavy d. It was very confusing the information overseas. But yes many people overseas see the stripe as a desirable trait and classify them as fire yellows yet painted fire reds don't have stripes...... Ggggrrrrr now when is the world going to produced a painted fire yellow? Cause I would kill for one

Yes, the elusive Painted fire yellow. I am working on it, but haven't nailed it yet.

Why aren't the reds with the stripe called fire reds?

Do the black and chocolate cherries have the stripe variants too?

I counted 7 reds with the stripe today and they are all a really solid dark red. The lighter girls don't have the stripe.

I have a chocolate with a tan almost gold stripe and some yellows with that stripe as well, they are only on the females though from what I see with my yellows.

I'm still waiting to see what the shrimplets turn out like from my striped girls. At what size/age can you tell what their true colour is going to be? I have some quite dark babies but they are still very small just they stand out against the black substrate

I personally don't see the colour grade going anywhere. There is a lot of breeding going into strengthening the colours and the people doing that are always going to want a higher price for their shrimp and the easiest way to differentiate them from the average stock is with the 'fire' 'sakura' grading etc.

I don't see it changing either as even with the stripe, shrimp can have no Colour grading. More research needs to be done regarding the stripe. Unfortunately I am at work :(

I have stripes on most of my shrimp from wild types to yellows, reds, my sun kissed orange and even chocolates. In my experience most of it comes with the shrimps maturity, having said that I DO have some about two months old and around 8-10mm showing stripes.

I like it and judge my shrimp showing this line as superior , There are others out there that think it is a down grading fault.

I wondered if it had something to do with maturity too. All the girls with the stripe appear to be the older ones. Unfortunately I did not breed them and bought them only recently so don't know how old they are. I like it too but possibly because it is a nice contrast to the deep red colour.

If you make the stripe big cover the whole body or half body and that will be intestine shrimp, I have see some half cover one on my red cherry shrimp before , they look good ,I have some yellow cherry have stripe too but hasn't work on them. the normal stripe are quit comment in cherry shrimp, but normally have stripe one have better color on them.you can work on them to make stripe cove body you will see some thick shell shrimp.
