Snow White VS Golden Shrimp. What's the difference?

I've gotten a few different answers from different people as to what the difference between the above shrimp are. Considering in the Shrimp Price Guide on the forum http://www.shrimpkeepersforum.com/forum/showthread.php/1815-Shrimp-Price-Guide

We have a fairly significant price difference. I'm hoping that someone who has kept them both can comment on the differences and how to tell them apart. Is there anything prospective buyers should be looking at/ for?

very simply put. golden is golden and snow white is completely white. not gold at all. in general the goldens don't had a very solid white colour and to me can look fairly Fugly. that's my 2 cents the non scientific way lol

I have them both, golden shrimp have a red tinge which makes them look goldish. Snow whites are all chalk white (body,head,legs). When young they may start out as chalk white color so you will think they are snows but as they grow they may get the golden look so unless buying from a respected breeder it is quite hard to differentiate when young. I have purchased a fair few thinking they were snows but turned out to be golds...

not so sure about the crs cbs as a difference as i have seen golden come out of cbs and snow whites from crs

That's probably because the CBS had some red genes in them and CRS had black genes...

That's the way I see it. Doesn't matter on its colour.

If its a gold colour and comes from cbs genetics, its a snow white- cull or low grade quality

Goldens bees can be even whiter than snow whites, but if they have CRS genetics, in my opinion from what I have read,

It is a Golden- CRS genetics.

Hmmm...... I can see all of your points. Perhaps we need some referencing from overseas breeders to prove out points? I myself am not sure. Brb!!!

How can goldens be whiter than original snow whites?

I've got 2 golden bees from CRS that are whiter than my snow whites from CBS. They come from a reputable breeder.

I keep them seperate from my snow whites because I know their genetics.

My point is they may be as white but not more white than proper snows can they?

From CBS, they will lose whiteness as they get older even if it is snow white in my experience.

I'm loading a video I just took of the goldens in my tank- they are just as solid white as the CRS. They come from the same genetics as the CRS.

I've turned off the 72 watt LED in the video so it doesn't over expose and white out the shrimp.

I think Dean can answer that as he has talked about snow whites being sold which are just alright looking golds not proper snows.

Ive selectively bred SW/GB for 2+ years....not with great success, due to nitrate issues 6+ months ago, resulting in deaths !, and my culling hasn't been very stringent.... this thread has definitely sparked life to their selective breeding for me !...So Thanks !

I personally regard SW/GB as a quality/grading issue. Whether they're from CRS/CBS, IMHO, a true SW is completing colgate white, thick shell, white legs, and no/minimal shadow or markings on it's head. I'll take some pics of my stock later today. There's no mistaken when you see a true SW, as it just pops !, as it's white is vastly different to your GB.

Bluey and dean and many others! while you are there can you tell me your survival rates for goldens and snow whites? I've noticed that there hasn't been a specialist gb/sw breeder with massive numbers of them

      Finally set up the 30L Shrimp Tank

      It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

      I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding?       Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

      You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
