smicko

Hi all, just thought I would throw a few photos of the 2nd gen. I'm umsure as to how they will eventually turn out but they are around 3-4weeks old and looking more orange than red at the moment.

Thanks for the comments, they are very orange at the moment but I am unsure if it's due to the lighter coloured gravel or if they will colour with age. I will be changing to a pure black gravel soon and painting the back wall black, so see what happens.

gbang put some pics of yours up so we can compare.

Cheers mick

I would consider rephrasing that especially with the rumors of gbang going around. Lol!

+1 LOL....

Smiko, are they 8-10mm yet ? If they still remain orange, and if you want something to compare with, I'll send you a sunkist for a true comparison.....:-)

Bahahaha you guys are evil. I will put pics up ASAP. They are currently in a bare tank so it will be really good to see their colours without dark substrates. I will move them soon and ill take pics again.

Beautiful shrimplets you have there smicko! It would be really interesting to compare the colouring of your orange babies to a pumpkin/sunkist (I still don't know if those are different or the same xD) shrimp :)

And I'm drooling over the blue rili! ;)

Thanks for the nice comments and the cheeky ones too lol. I really should think about how I word sentences.

Bb they would be around the 8mm mark. I have one or two that are a brighter red buy most are orange.

Jess. The blue rilis are my greatest achievement so far I cant wait for them to grow and breed.

Cheers mick

If you purchased Salty Shrimp GH+, that is a premixed mineraliser. That means the manufacturer has premixed Calcium sulphate and Magnesium sulphate together at a ratio of around 4:1. If you want more control over the Ca:Mg ratio or if you want to make GH/KH+ you can purchase these ingredients and mix your own.  I have a sticky post in Water Parameters, if you are ever curious of making your own remineraliser.   If you want a bit more control over the parameters you get from Salty Shrimp ... mix it into a plastic water bottle. Fill 1/4 or 1/3 of the bottle with SS GH+ and add RO water. Dissolve the SS GH+ and drip only as much as you need from the bottle for each water change.

It is normal glass unless specified. I have one of these too, and they are perfect for shrimps.

Like making the mixture from the powder?

I will try and answer this as best I can............ The commercial GH+ or GH/KH+ powder is made to create a set level of parameters and minerals that suit the shrimps requirements perfectly, to help them stay healthy and moult etc! Using RO water it will produce a certain preset ratio of TDS/GH/KH/PH, dependant on which product you use. Think of it as if making a cake, you need certain ingredients and the right proportions of each ingredient for it to work well, too much (or too little) of something means it won't work properly? Some people prefer to make their own mixture of minerals rather than buy the commercial products! Hope this helps you understand? Simon

What do you mean by a premixed Mineralizer?
