Berried Shrimp Dropping Eggs (Cause)

There are several reasons and causes for berried shrimps dropping their eggs.

· Berried shrimp harassed / stressed

· 1^st time berried – inexperience

· Water Paramater (WP) (Presense of Ammonia, Nitrite ….)

· Drastic fluctuation of WP (Temp, PH, TDS…)

· Unfertilised eggs (No male present…)

· Premature Moulting

There a several ways these eggs can be saved, via an egg tumbler, net/seeve over aeration/flow etc ...

If your berried shrimp drops her eggs, go through the possible causes, and eliminate any risk to a repeat occurrence. Post the issues and your experience on the forum, and your remedy and exchanged advise/discussions, will assist others.

I just read an article on artificailly raising eggs from a dead berried blue pearl shrimp (dead within 24hr period). So thought I might add this. As long as you patiently extract the eggs with out touching them with your bare hands (acids from hands may damage eggs) from the body (to prevent disease and ammonia) you can also sucessfully raise them.

And here's a plan B if you don't have a tumbler ( but best if you do )

using a container with a lid add 1/3 water.

add shrimp eggs (do not touch with your hands as the acids can potentially damage the eggs)

remove any particles of dead shrimp

place lid back on but not sealed to allow oxygen exchange

a few times a day using a syringe plunger extract water and plunge back in to aggitate and add oxygen (might want to get a little more creative than this guy)

every 3rd day change 75% water

That's it, no heater, no air stone, just a plain and simple plan B

Yeah I've ready that article too, seems he was quite surprised it worked but it did & that's all that matters. He did stress the point not to touch the eggs at all as it was very very bad for them. I was quite surprised he didn't use a heater or air stone, very interesting read though :encouragement:
