Yellow Cherrys throwing out blues?

Ok guys, at the risk of sounding crazy and uninformed. I'll give you a quick run down.

I have my Benibachi tank that is home to some high/higher grade CRS and some Yellow Cherrys. Over the last few weeks I've picked and selected the nicer yellows and moved them to their own tank. There's still quite a few adults and a tonne of shrimplets from a female I didn't move to the new tank in time. Now I KNOW young shrimplets are clear and change to yellow as they mature (as they're doing right now)

A few minutes ago. I see a nice adult male in the tank, that I decide to move to the Yellow tank. As I'm netting him out a pesky little shrimp goes into the net.... and this is the odd thing.... He was blue. And a darker sky blue than I've seen pics of people's blue velvets etc on the internet. I quickly remove the yellow. Run to turn my computer on. Grab the camera, turn the flash on, all while the net is standing upright against the front glass to make it easier to photograph. I get back to the tank, and he escaped. So unfortunately no pics.

So I'll reiterate a few points. I have shrimplets in the tank (which this guy is/was a shrimplet) that I can see colouring up. I could even start culling at this stage. 1 pops up blue *I swear* from Yellow parents. The tank has never had Red Rilli or Chocolates or Blue's only Yellows and CRS.

Has anyone heard of this happening before?

Mate there's always mutations in all shrimp. U lucky man!!! I've had greens come out from yellows but their Colour doesn't stay true. Could it be possible that when you buy shrimps from other people a baby was dragged along? But if no.... Take piccies!!!! Woohoo! More cool cherries :)

Not a chance. Adult Yellows went it and I think 2 juvies from Nogi. This little blue guy is too small to be Nogi's freebies and consistent in size with the rest of the progeny bred in the tank. If I see the little guy again. I'll definately get some pics.

Looks like another breeding project..... I''ll have to try and breed it back to it's brothers/sisters, as I have no way of knowing which parents it came from. I'm not even sure the female that produced the shrimplets is with us anymore.

What I want to know is. Has anyone ever had it happen to themselves or heard of this happening? Yellows throwing out blues

Nice one. I've got a white juvi atm, just waiting to see if it's a late bloomer with the colour.

----- Sent from my mobile so apologising in advance for any grammar or spelling mistakes.

It is possible that the Yellows you got were bred with Chocolates or rilli generations ago. This might also explain it.

I can't quote on the lineage of the parents as they're direct acquisitions from members on the forum. So unless Chen or Nogi would like to own up and admit they have had something else in the tank with their yellows at some point it's a possibility.

Here's a couple really bad photos. I can't get it happening with this little guy and the crappy box he's in atm.

He shows up more blue to the human eye and blue along the body/ tail. Interestingly I also netted out a weird greenish one this morning too. No photos of that one. This shrimp is proably around 3-4mm in length.

Aw, cute! Looks like he has a bit of yellow colouration on his back. Maybe you will have shrimp that are half blue and half yellow! Beach shrimp! :D

Chris....the start of the Eagles Selective breeding project....what are your plans now ? Throw him/her with your yellow rili ?

I was actually hoping you'd give me a suggestion :) I'll stud him/ her out with the "yellow rillis" for a couple of batches and then find something else for it to breed with or if someone has suggestions maybe lend it out.

I'm thinking that if he came from yellow stock, then the blue SHOULD be more stable, but I have no idea. If someone has some blues we can try breeding it with for a couple of batches too. Wait and see I guess

Not in my tank. My yellows were originally sourced from Dean and HeavyD so could be something there.

Me neither.

Besides my blues were acquired after Nogi received the yellows from me, and are in a different tank.

Thanks guys. I can't quite remember Chen's username on here but I can shoot him a PM on a different forum. I'll try and keep the pics coming as the little fella matures.

Having read through my original post he was more blue the other day/ first time I saw him. He also looks more blue than the pictures suggest, but it's a bit of a pain to try and get the colours to show up properly in a bare plastic container.
