Dead KK

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Got home today to find a dead kk Panda shrimp and a few mishlings and crs. The only thing i done was used "no planaria" last week on Thursday, moved a few plants and redecorated the tank on Friday Come Saturday morning, this was when i started to find dead shrimps. I ended up losing my beautiful snow white, my only female mishlings and a couple of crs. I knew something was wrong and done a water change asap. Everything seemed ok up until today.. Dead kk panda :crushed:

Anyways...a bit frustrated and heart broken that i lost the kk Panda...

Damn It ! Aaaarrggggg...could feel your pain and anguish even in WA....sorry to hear izzy ! ^!#*&!^(!*%!*^$%!()&..... you hear so many success and disaster stories on No Planaria (full, half, 10% dosage etc...), that it gets so confusing.....

Give yourself time, and re-group.......sorry to hear the bad news izzy ! :dejection:

Oh no, sorry to hear izzy. Its never a nice feeling to look into your tank and find a dead shrimp, especially when its a Taiwan or Tiger :(

Personally I try not to redecorate or move thing around and If I have to I try not to put my hands in the tank, I even purchased a couple of pairs of 50cm tweezers so I have no excuse to put my hands in there.

Oh no, that's terrible! Really sorry for your loss :(

I've lost 2 yellow cherries in the past few days, but I hadn't done anything different either and all my water parameters are fine. We've had quite warm weather here lately, though, and I don't have a chiller, so I thought there could be a possibly of some kind of bacteria that might have taken hold in that tank. Maybe it could be the same for you?

Personally I have had no trouble using no planaria on my crs/snow white tanks...but OUCH! Honestly I go all pale in the face when I see a dead snow white, really can't imagine how I would feel if it were a kk (I'd probably just faint! LOL!). I really feel for you, sorry for your loss!

izzy i am so sorryto hear your loss mate. unfortunately i think no planaria usually causes an ammonia spike due to the millions of planaria deaths. i heard most people who don't have problems do a water change 1-3 hours after dosing. and then there was a possibility of the redecoration opening some ammonia pockets? either way i am so sorry to hear your loss bro. chin up we all have our bad days

Sorry to hear your loss Izzy.

Could have been many things, but the outcome is still the same and it all hurts just as much.

Hope you continue on and keep up with the journey.

I think Gbang might be onto something. Definitely alot of dead planaria would be a problem. I have had bad experiences with No Planaria in the past. I will use it again but I think when dealing with high end shrimp, always be safe then sorry i.e. take all shrimp out before dosing.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for all the kind replies.

I ended up catching all of my shrimps that night and done a 50% water change on all tanks/sump. Tested my water parameter before putting all of my shrimps back in. Till this day, so far so good. No more dead shrimp/s. I will no longer be touching my tanks at all unless i need to. Lesson learnt :)

Just a quick rundown of my setup.

3 x 3ft tank plumbed, benibachi in all tanks, oxydators, bee balls and sponge filters.

3ft sump, eheim noodles, eheim substrat pro, seachem matrix, charcoal for now, purigen, black/blue filter mat, & Japanese matt.

Eheim pump

Hailea Chiller

Aquazonic UV filter 9w

Fluval airpump

WP

Temp: 22c

EC: 210

TDS: 105

PH: 6.4

AMM: 0

Nitrate: 0

Nitrite: 0

GH:4

KH:2

Thank You all.

Izzy

Looking great izzy, do you only use RO water plus minerals ? Just wondering where your KH -2, is coming from?

Hi BB,

That''s the reading i got during the water change. RO and salty shrimp minerals used.

I forgot to add, i have an 6 stage RO unit too.

I will check my WP tomorrow again. Unless i'm doing something wrong with the KH and GH test, thats the reading i got following the API instructions :)

So far all shrimps are ok and pretty active.

I hope one of the pro's has a read of this and has some guidance for you izzy.

There could be many reasons for this like the use of no planaria, the redecorating, the large water change after the previous issues or it could be stress or bacterial. I really don't know, maybe someone can look it up in their little black book and offer some guidance.

Hey Izzy im no pro but when something beat the s%$t out of me i go back to basics.... I mean i lost a lot of crystals (nothing dollar wise like what you are lossing) a couple of months ago... All i did was went back to basics... all my tests were ok so i just did little water changes everyday and did not lose any more till i stopped water changing then i figured it out... In my case i had to many shrimp in a nano tank... I hope when you read this you have fixed or sorted out what it was...

Izzy, that's devastating....really sorry to hear, ditto to JPN07.

The WP is OK, although my TDS is at 200, and KH is 0. Can you take a pic of the tank ? Do you have enough aeration ? Sponge filter bubbling the surface and oxidator ? If NO PLANARIA initiated all this, my advise is to do 10-20% WC EVERY 12 hours. Do you also add salty shrimp, or any other remineralise powder etc...in your WC or as a weekly add ?

We gotta figure this out... If you think of any other info etc.... Pls post it
