Well as you all know it's the holiday season and well i got bored so I traded an old 4 ft for 2x2ft already drilled and divided tanks post-29-139909858856_thumb.jpgbrought timber today started making frame work first ever timber stand made by me and probably the last lol in going to stick to steel and cutting materials my self ( chick at bunnings cut every piece 2-3 mm difference :( so that's added to making it a touch wonky custom as I would say but never the less wonky )post-24-139909858858_thumb.jpgpost-24-13990985886_thumb.jpg

Great work. It always seems like a great idea building your own stand.tanks. But whatever the outcome, it'll make us all a more accomplish hobbyist. Looking forward to the updates.

Good work on the DIY. Or Wonky DIY as you call it.

Just make sure the lighting isnt reef spectrum as you will probably end up with a fair bit of algae in your tank.

Great, don't forget to update us on the progress, always a nice reed.

Just a small suggestion...may want to install taps on each outlet, so that it gives you the flexibility to isolate each tank etc...can be done anytime though...

Looks good...but i was just wondering, what happens if the overflow filter mesh clogs just enough to cause the water entering the tank to exceed water exiting tank?....I have experienced this on much larger mesh than your using when i was feeding duckweed to cichlids on a much larger system.while my mesh was big enough to allow duck weed through it only took a small piece of blanket weed to help the duck weed to clog it. My solution was to drill lots of small holes in a 12 inch piece of pvc pipe and fit that to the bulkhead so even if one part became clogged there was plenty more holes to allow water through. Nothing kills domestic bliss like a wet carpet! lol Good luck with your project :)

I've got mesh on my other rack with no dramas of clogging as of yet finger crossed :)

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Hi Guys,  Does anyone know where to buy PRL shrimps in WA, not the CRS please. Thanks Regards

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
