I've just purchased a new digital heater with an external temp setting button. I've tried all morning to set the darn thing up but can't get it to  adjust the temp . It's an Aqua Heater HL-388 LED Digital . is anyone familiar with this heater who can help me set it up. I've read and reread the instructions.

I think you just press the set button on the external cable? If not there may be adjuster on the top of the heater but you mayhave to extract it from its plastic casing?

If this doesn't work let me know and I will have another look!

Hi Simon yes there is a set button but I can’t get it to move the temp down to 21 . I can’t see an adjustment knob on the actual heater.  I can toggle the set button between Celsius and Fahrenheit but not the actual temperature. I will put it in another tank tomorrow and have a play again. I’ve switched it off now as I can’t take a chance with over heating my shrimp or have the chiller going off and on all night . I thought it was such a good idea having a set button outside. Maybe hubby can work it out

You may need to keep presssing the button to go up to max temperature then if you keep pressing, it wil start from the lowest temperature again, so on a loop, I have a few devices like that? It is a good idea to have the button outside!

You may want to think about a plug in separate heater safety switch, believe me you dont want to cook your shrimp as i did when the heater stuck on, gutting after getting to where I was 100% happy with the shrimps? You plug the heater you nave into it and then into the electricity supply and it has its own sensor. If it gets too hot it cuts the power from the heater? Below link to uk one so you can see what it is but you will need to tace one that suits your power supply;

Thanks Simon yes I thought about cycling to the highest temp and then down which I will try in the morning. I will look at the safety switch but thankfully I keep my chiller connected all year round so I will hear it if it comes on. It sounds like a jet engine in the middle of the night.

Looks like I’ve got the heater sorted thanks Simon. We were both right you need to go to the highest temp then cycle back down but you need to click and release the button not hold it steady- click and release cycles through the temp and holding the button goes from Celsius to Fahrenheit.  The internal LED temp and on off lights are very bright and distracting unfortunately and as my plants aren’t terribly tall I can’t hide it - I guess I could put it near the bottom of the tank horizontally rather than vertically to hide it but then I wouldn’t see what temp it was which defeats the purpose really but anyway I’ve got it working.

Great news it's working fine. I am sure you will get used to the led display, as yo say, you need to be able to see it easily to know if there may be a problem? You have a nice big tank so I guess it won't be too difficult to place it somewhere too distracting! They may become less bright when they have been inthe tank for a while, especially if some algae grows on it? Or as you mentioned, maybe a tall plant would help!

Yes I’m just glad its working. I will try placing it lower and try having just the temp showing.
