Hello, I've just recently started keeping red cherry shrimp. I thought it's time I join a shrimp forum so here I am ? currently I have 9 red cherry shrimp and 1 blue ramshorn snail in a planted setup. Hello to everyone and nice to meet you.

Welcome to the forum and hopefully you will find lots of interesting information and people here!

I hope everything is going well with your new adventure?

It would be great to hear more about your setup, is it a small tank ordo you only have a few shrimps because you are just starting out. That is a lovelly blue snail in the photo and the 2 larger reds look great with the stripe down the back!

Thanks everyone ? yes I'm quite ignorant if the fact that cherry shrimps can have stripes down the back??? Is this normal or a certain variety???? My tank is a 12 litre I guess you call nano tank and is reasonably heavily planted. I would attach a photo but I was having trouble attaching pics that are within the size limit.... I had to zoom right in to get the other one in lol. Loving my blue ranshorn snail! Plabts include cameroon moss, val, bacopa and ambulia. I have some almobd leaf and shrimp wood in there.... the holey wood.... can never rember the name

At 12 litres, it is definitely a nano tank. The stripe down the back is often called a 'racing stripe', and it's just a common colouration you can see on some cherry shrimp. Some people breed for it, some prefer not to have it. The 'holey wood' is called cholla wood. Sounds like you've seriously nailed the tank setup!

Yeah I think I've done ok, I have been keeping fish for over 30 years tho, mostly live bearers and Africans.... So I had a decent idea before I tried my hand at my first shrimp tank. I'm really happy with the result though. I see why people become addicts of shrimp ?

Nah, just Africans these days, 400 litre mixed collection. Keeping it simple ?

The LFS near me quite often has some nice ones... Maybe not usually on the rarer side but they get a bit of variety. NATURE AQUARIUMS in mont Albert. They have some nice killi's atm

Oh, what a small world! They're my fav of the stores around here! I'll have to check out the killies.
I love the photos you put up in the gallery by the way, the shrimp tank really looks amazing, setup is just perfect, and the Africans are beautiful.

Cheers, appreciate the feedback. Love my Africans, but had been great setting up a planted tank again after so many years, even if it is just a nano. Loving the shrimp though, wish I was allowed to set up another bigger tank for them ?

      Finally set up the 30L Shrimp Tank

      It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

      I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding?       Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

      You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
