@ Lachie, there is actually 7-8 inches at the back already and 3 inches at the front :) it is just the angle of photo as i was trying to stop the brightness of the lights and took the photo looking slightly down over the tank :) but thanks for the input and your onto it :encouragement:

@Loach, i dont want big plants in the tank, only nano/mini and NL java gets huge in time. There will be heaps more added once i get them in next few weeks.

the biggest problem is how slow all the mini plants grow but in about 6-8 months it will be sweet :)

You wont be upset with nano moss then. That stuff grows like duckweed lol. So did you end up buying the trident & mini java ferns?

Wow that's a lot of soil! How do you work out how much you need? Or do you keep adding until you achieve a certain thickness?

I have used that calculator. That's why I asked, because you used so much more than recommended.

sorry HeavyD, yes the calculations on that site are minimum required soil depth etc for make the water parameters work as per the claims.

i have found that with the benibachi soil the more you put in the lower the PH goes and in turn the longer the buffering capabilities.

i wanted this tank to buffer around 5.0-5.2 and thats why so much.

sorry i hope that explains better for you

Very nice shrimps as always. In a few months time I can't imagine how many they will breed out in that tank! Love the SW too.
