Has anyone ordered painted fire red shrimp or shrimp in general from aquatic arts?

I have a 15 gallon tank and it is cycled and ready for shrimp. I used seeded media so it’s been cycled for about a week or so. I want to get some painted fire red shrimp. I was going to order from eBay but I did a little more research and it’s the same price from aquatic arts. Anyone ordered from them? I’m thinking of getting either the breeder package or just 10. Do they add extras for doa? How long did the standard shipping take from the day you ordered it till you had the shrimp in your hands?

I don't have any personal experience, but from what I've heard they're extremely reputable. Channel sponsor of 'The Secret History Living Inside Your Aquarium' on yt, and he sings praise of them. I don't know what the US post systems are like in this time of crisis, but in Australia I wouldn't currently buy shrimp online. if it's bad, see if you have any local breeders. Usually checking at your lfs to see if they know anyone, or looking on craigslist or aquabid is a good way to find local breeders and hobbyists. Good luck.

Why wouldn’t you buy online?

Here in UK nowhere is sending shrimp through the post due to the virus disruption! I would check with Aquatic Arts as to how long they expect the delivery to take currently, as I am sure it will be longer than pre CV19 in every country? I have heard successful deliveries on here of up to a week, though the longer it takes the more stressed the shrimp will get and the water they are in will be very poluted, and so longer will be needed to acclimate them when you do get them.

If you can get them locally you will avoid any possible delays etc!  Obviously it won't be easy finding somewhere nearby and therre may not even be any near by. If Aquatic arts seem convinced it should be ok then by all means give it a try as you aren't dealing with a costly or very large order - probably worth the slightly increased risk?

I just had a look at their website. The breeder combo sounds a great idea at $45 for 15 shrimp and should give you all you need to get started. I would go for that, bare in mind  there may be a delay their end sending them out though. I can't see what the cost of delivery is though but the shrimps look a reasonable price at £3 each!

Yep! But for $5 more I can get 20. I was just at my lfs and they had blue neos and I’m torn on weather I should get red it blue!!

Yeah, they are both so nice.

That's why MTS exists.

MTS (Multi Tank Syndrome).

Unfortunately only you can make that decision? It will be easier/quicker/cheaper(?) to get them from LFS (still drip acclimate though) but don't 'setle' for something if you really want something else, even if the ones you really want will be a bit more difficult to get. There are quite a few shades of blue, so do you like the shade of the LFS blues as well?

As JayC states, that dilemma is haow it all starts until you end up with a lot of tanks.

I look forward to hearing what you decide to do next!

Yep. I actually want a lighter blue as my tank has dark substrate and black background. I’ll have to go see the shrimp again as I’ve done more research but I’m liking the blue velvets. As soon as I started cycling my tank I was painted fire red all the way. Now, I’m not sure. I know the painted will look amazing but the blues are just stunning. If only you could mix colors and they wouldn’t become wild type ?. Just imagine what if a painted fire red and blue velvet breed and half were red and half were blue ?
