Repashy??

Recommended Posts

When I kept shrimp a while ago I fed them the Repashy Shrimp Souffle and they absolutely loved it. It was an easy product to make and I liked it a lot. I'm getting back into keeping shrimp and found out that Repashy no longer makes the Shrimp Souffle. I was wondering if anyone feeds their shrimp Repashy and if so what kind or kinds?

Hi clippergear,

I don’t speak from experience but I hear shrimp adore repashy gel. Which is just repashy powder mixed with water and boiled. It comes out as a jelly. I have never heard of a shrimp that doesn’t like it. Most shrimp even love the straight powder form. It’s especially beneficial to shrimplets as the powder will float all over the tank.

@Blazepelt  thanks for the advice of just spreading the powder on the surface of the tank for the babies. I hadn't thought of using it that way.

@jayc  thanks for the recipe. It's probably very similar to anything Repashy would have but is more nutritious like you said. I know it's way cheaper to make my own!! Thanks for the link to the recipe. I've checked it out and it seems straight forward with readily available ingredients!! I've already located the super greens and the agar agar. I'm assuming I could add some other minerals and stuff to the recipe as well, which I like to do.

Yes, of course you can add anything to it. That's the beauty of the recipe.

My advise after making several batches so far, use only half the ingredient list. The recipe makes too much food for the average shrimp keeper. Freeze anything that is not going to be fed in the coming week. Always 'try' to not touch the agar agar with your hands to avoid bacteria growing on it.

Oh! I posted this free recipe to the community to help shrimp keepers out. But the price of using this food is a picture or two of the shrimp eating it. ?

@clippergear, make your own !

I have a recipe somewhere on this forum. It's more nutritious than repashy since they have to keep costs down.

Oh yeah ... found the link.

I've gotta say, this is extremely tempting. I've been wanting to do my own fish food for a while now, but this sounds great as well! I think I have a cheap source for the bee pollen, and chlorella and agar agar should be easy to find as well. My shrimp rarely eat prepared foods, seemingly much more attracted to the excess of algae, waste and biofilm available in my tank. Hopefully this will be the thing they'll love, and I can get the nutrients they need to them!

Mate, your shrimp will be eating healthier than you will with this recipe.

Like I said to clippergear, you just need to promise to post pictures of your shrimp eating it. I get a kick out of watching shrimp swarm the food.

That's  good idea. Smaller sized portions make it a lot easier to handle and the remainder can be kept in an airtight container/bag in the fridge or freezer.

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Hi Guys,  Does anyone know where to buy PRL shrimps in WA, not the CRS please. Thanks Regards

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
