Planaria?

I have a hard time recognizing if these are Planaria or something else. They are so small and even with bifocals Im half blind. To me they look rounded and white. Maybe you can take a look and help me distinguish them?



I did try treating the tank with Planaria Zero. This is when I doubted my own identification of them as Planaria. Seems like they are unaffected by my dosing tank.

Hi Discusluv, welcome to SKFA.

 

Those look like rhabdocoela flatworms, not planaria. Planaria have an arrow shaped head.

Having said that, Planaria Zero should work on rhabdocoela as well. What dose did you use? Did you follow the instructions?

I used the following dosage that I found online: Please use the following amount for 50 L of aquarium water. 0 to 24 hours: 2 spoons (1 g). 25-48 hours: 2 spoons (1 g). 49 to 72 hours: 1 spoon (0.5 g). 

The tank is a 5 gallon, so used spoon that came in bag to measure out appropriate dosage.

 

Im happy you were able to see a head to see if pinpointed or not- lol. Looks like a blob to me ?

All I can see is what looks like a lot of seed shrimps???? Maybe I am looking at th wrong thing!

Simon is right. When I first viewed the video, it was on a small galaxy tab. But upon seeing the video again on a larger screen, it is indeed Seed shrimp as Simon pointed out. 

Unfortunately, Planaria zero wont kill seed shrimp. And anything that does will also kill shrimp.

The only way is to siphon them out at every water change.

Or you get a small nano fish.

Endlers can decimate a population of seed shrimp in a small tank, and are quite lovely fish that aren't hard to come by, and will be safe with shrimp. From my personal experience at least.

I put fish, dwarf rasbora and a killie into my tank and they cleared the tank of seed shrimps within a day! Baby shrimp would also be at risk of being eaten by most fish as well of course.

      Finally set up the 30L Shrimp Tank

      It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

      I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

      Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

      You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
