Is it possible to selective breed with one nano tank?

For whatever reason (wife) I'm not able to set up another tank or a breeding rack. The question I keep asking myself is how can I keep improving my stock quality and grading?

All I want to do at the moment is to get SS or higher grades for both my CRS and CBS. I have a mix of A's, SS's and a few SSS's. I have 5 berried females at the moment, and was planning to start reducing stock/cull as the offspring is graded S or lower. Current babies look all like A's.

Appreciate any advice or tips!

Yes I think it is possible but you will need to cull heavily and select a trait you want and stay focussed on just that.

The problem I thunk you will have is mix of CBS & CRS. Also you need to remember sometimes the shrimp might look like crap but when you put them in different water parameters they look good again! In all honesty you need at least 2 tanks because there will always be a babie with something good that the others don't have and you might want to cross that trait back in at a later date to improve the overall quality. If your only goal is ss or SSS just mix in a golden or white for quickest results.

I agree with Boss Dean... It will be better if you have 2 tanks.. Different tank with different parameter will have different look on the shrimp... Even lighting also does a difference because I am using LED and T5... Shrimps in T5 lighting tanks shows much better white and red comparing to those in my LED tanks.. But once I cull those in LED used tanks, they somewhat become very nice in my T5 'cull' tank.. Haha.. End up I am in a dilemma...

Try not to use too much golden or snow in breeding.. You might get the body pattern but the quality of color might get lousier... I have a Flowerhead tank but all the snow/golden are removed or considered culls...

Nice idea. I wish I had another tank for breeding. But alas I'm stuck for now.

Well, if space is the issue.. You can don't start tank horizontally but start vertically.. Hahaha.. Just like Singapore, if land is scarce, we build upwards...

Sell the edge LOL, no in all seriousness if you can't add another tank, why not sell the one you have and get something more suitable to what you want to achieve. The edge is a nice look but not really for serious shrimp breeding.

Sprae, need to deal with the cause, not the issue ! Work on your misses...LOL. There are so many stages in our hobby...from a single tank, large display tank, multiple tanks, more multiple tanks, down sizing......

IMO, having a 1 system breeding setup (say 4 tanks), is great.... easy maintenance, and great fun for selective breeding....

So again, work on the misses.

Nailed it! I'll need to work on my wife first, but anytime I spend on the hobby she get's more ammo for no more tank. Hell, I'm bordering losing the Edge!

On the cards, but daughter is only 2. Will take a few years before that card can be used.
