Breeders n Keepers back issues

Blue Ridge

Does anyone know if these are in print anywhere? They don't seem to print nearly enough copies to meet demand, issue after issue sells out and is gone forever.

Have you actually seen one of these? I got one and it had great pictures but it isn't really about anything in particular and I binned the one I got as apart from the great photos there was nothing really of interest just bits and pieces about 'breeders n keepers', so I couldn't complain as that was what it was called. I wanted a book about all aspects of keeping shrimps and this wasn't that. I believe one f the experts has written a book and I wish I bought it when I saw it on my suppliers website as it has also gone now.

I recommend seeing one before buying though as it MAY not be what you want/think it is????

I got their Wild Shrimp China edition and loved it. It has amazing photos of wild-collecting many species currently in the hobby (as Chris L is known for) but also has water parameters, temps and such at each collection location. I haven't been able to actually get my hands on a B&K, but had high hopes.

The breeders and keepers also has some fantastic photos but not much else if my memory serves well enough, I can't check as I threw it out!

I think the book I wanted may have been by Chris as well but was supposed to cover everything on shrimps and crabs. Definitely one of those 'you should buy it when you see it' moments as have wondered ever since?

ProShrimp has the 3rd one and I expect they would send to USA?

You can get them on amazon and ebay, overpriced though!

https://www.amazon.com/Chris-Lukhaup/e/B00QWELEW6?ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_54&qid=1566551215&sr=1-54

Interestingly the feedback on the 1st one was pretty much the same as I thought and said.

Found the book I wanted so I appreciate you reminding me!

Had a quick look in my new invertebrates book and think they are Limnopilos naiganetri! If so it says temperature 24 to 28, Ph 7.5 - 8.5. They should be given driftwood and floating plants. It also says that although they carry eggs, raising the young has not been done in captivity (book produced 2015). This youtube video says she has had breeding though???? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPOIq4AsZCE I had thought about getting some in the past but as she says they are a bit like spiders so that put me off................ Hope everything else is going well still! Simon

I'm really happy, finally a local shop in Hong Kong had some of these crabs, not to sure which variation of the spider crabs,, but they advertised them as miniature spider crabs (Limnopilos naiyanetri) , I was going to bring them back from Taiwan if I find any, but no need now, got them for about GBP 13.50 for 10 crabs, I will pick up another 30 crabs in the next few day.   The first photo is the crabs in the bag, I won't get home till tmr, the second photo is taken at the shop.

You can do large water changes, I do it every 6 months to reset the minerals in the water, but you cannot just dump the new water back into the tank. It needs to be fed in slowly. I drip in the new water after adjusting it to match previous parameters.

Shrimp don't need much of a water change as they are low bioload! I have 30L and only do 2L per week so as with JayC cut back on the water change amount, even .5 litre would be ok! Large water changes tend to trigger moulting so they may be moulting too often? They may drop the eggs if they aren't fertilised and therefore unwanted! Have you seen any that look to be able yet?
