bee shrimps with eggs

Mine is a DIY Chiller, as you know a peltier has a hot side and cold side, for the cold side to stay cold, the hot side must be kept cold and with a heatsink and fan to cool it down.

My DIY chiller has two sides and two water block.

blue aluminum block with tube leading to the outlet of the canister filter and back to the tank to chill the tank water.

copper block is to cool the hot side of the peltier, with copper block to the radiator/fan and a water pump looping.

The problem is the tube from the water pump came off, apparently the plastic from the pump started to melt and the tube came off and the looping side had no water, so the copper water block stayed hot all the time with heat transferred to the cold side of the peltier also heating the water.

since the copper takes time to cool down, most of the heat and the room hot temp had already heat the tank water to about 45 C.

I've added some additional to the tank, yesterday I added 8 new Red Wine and 1 black/white galaxy pinto. may be there is something wrong with me, I kind of fall in love with Red Wine more than any other variation.

Total

1 Amano Shrimp

1 Pinto Galaxy

11 Red Wines

22 Thai Micro Crabs

I tried to upload photo, but this site keeps on giving me error.

Since the new update it allows larger files photos but I added some this morning and it worked ok?

I also have a fondness for the red wine shrimps (that beautiful red wine colour) but unfortunately they don't appear to have survived very well (only seen 1 today) as they were the first I got, and came from a non breeder! I got some a couple of days ago (direct from breeder) which were the SS grade so a lot more white? I may get some standard red wines at a later date but I worked out I had already spent £360 on these new batches of shrimps so that is probably enough for now I think!

The person who sold  me the blues, and the latest reds has loads of galaxy (and fancy tiger) on he website up for sale but for some reason I prefer the standard taiwan bee patterns. I suspect that some of the shrimps I got fro them will have galaxy/pinto genes though so I may end up with some groovy patterns like last time?????? That should be the next exciting thing I HOPE happens, shrimplets, woohoo!

I have just done a full set of parameter tests on the shrimp tank and they are all good.....................

The new update has reduce the photo size to 1.67MB for me, and all the photo taken with my phone is over.

My pinto only cost less that GBP 4, as for the Red Wine, its 5 for GBP 10.20, any extra Red Wine will be GBP 2 if more than 5 is purchased.

I am old school like that too. I prefer the classics patterns/colours. And I try very hard to not create further hybrids.

I want my CRS to be CRS. My tigers to be tigers. etc...

@Cesar, what's the deal now with the new forum update? Has the photo size limits been changed, and if so what is the max for regular members?

I like my shrimps original, no hybrid, most of my Red Wine are Red king kong/Red panda, and two shadow panda's with a tint of yellow instead of the white.

I like the original patterns and colours as well, but it will probably be hard to keep them constant in a mixed tank. I didn't mind getting some different/groovy patterns before. I expect I will get some groovy ones again as the blue steel  were removed from a galaxy tank by the breeder so will likely have mixed genes I expect. The bee shrimp are much better because you will always get good colours even in a mixed tank?

I only have Red Wine in my tank, my black pinto died yesterday, It was ok when I last saw it, then I saw the thai micro crab eating its head, it was still black, so i'm not sure if it died itself or killed by the crab, couldn't find the tail.

I also have a amano shrimp, but i'm quite sure there is no way to mix breed with the Red Wine.

I also don't like the Red Wine with has a full red body with two thin white line.

My Red Wine was purchased from a seller where he keeps only black panda, Red Wine and pinto together, nothing else.

I usually lose a few from each batch in the first 2 weeks so I would think it just died as you only had it a few days, but keep an eye on the crabs, I doubt they are usually of any threat to the shrimps but you have a lot of the crabs?

I wouldn't think the amano shrimp can reproduce with the bee shrimps? I'm also not a fan of the red 'extreme' where the whole is red so I didn't buy any of those, I am sure they had them though!

Once your shrimp start breeding you will find out whether they have cross bred or are carrying mixed genes? I hope all the red wines are doing well?

these ones i bought were suppose to be red fancy tigers

Yeah, THOSE are fancy tigers.

Notice the distinctive tiger stripes?

But the one in KMS's picture is ... different. More CRS with spots than fancy tiger, if you know what I mean.

Anyway, just enjoy it. But if you are planning on breeding pure CRS, than maybe don't risk it with this shrimp.

Definitely no tiger in him. A typical tiger tooth pattern but with red or white splotches where it shouldn't be. I reckon it's just a lower grade CRS.

  • 5 weeks later...

Back from my holiday, my tanks is full of hair algae, took me about a hour to get rid of it all, just left the back untouched.

My amano shrimps a crabs lives, weren't quite sure how many crabs I had before and after the trip. I had no other shrimps in the tank.

5 days ago purchased 5 Red pinto galaxy shrimps, quite nice, they are going well.

Hope you enjoyed your trip!

Do you mean that all the other shrimps died or that they are in another tank, I hope it's the latter?

All the shrimps died before I went on the trip except the amano shrimp that I purchased for algae, purchased on the 20th after the trip ,5 pinto galaxy, but one died the next day, so I have 4 pinto galaxy and 1 amano shrimps.

Fingers crossed for the new batch! I don't think I have ever had a new batch where ALL survived for the first 2 weeks, I usually expect/hope for 4 of 5 to survive which ties in with your latest batch?

Great you are persevering.
