Testing a new Forum Index Page, what do you think?

Hey Keepers,

Made a change today to the landing page for the forum index, here is the short story... Noticed the latest activity page was very popular and our mobile app also uses a similar latest activity listing, so I updated the SKF page to show the latest activity over the traditional forum category listings... You can see the change here...

Depending on your feedback and posting increase/decrease, we will either keep it or return back to the old forum index.

To dig a little deeper, the old page seemed a bit dated. With so many posts received on a daily basis here on SKF, it often felt like nothing was going on, when in fact, there are posts that go unseen and unanswered because they are buried and hard to find. Changing the front page to show the latest stream/activity of the forum enables us to quickly check what new posts and replies have been posted without having to dig around.

SKF is growing really fast, and I want to make sure we are providing the best experience for shrimp keepers possible while creating the greatest online shrimp keeping resource. In that spirit, we will continue to make a test new stuff, for now let's keep it simple and start with one page... Let me know what you think...

Thanks!

I was pulling my hair out wondering why it was doing that.

LOL... Hopefully, it works better than the old page, let me know what you think...

I can spruce it up in time, figured I would keep it simple for now and test it out, get some feedback...

I enjoyed going to "unread content" so that it grouped all the posts together under one thread, rather than showing every single post that has been made.

A work around is just using the Shrimp Keepers Stream and changing the type of content it shows.

  • 3 weeks later...

It's been about a month now with the new forum index page showing a stream rather than the traditional forum category layout...

So what do you think? Should we keep it or go back to the old style?

I have noticed an up trend in conversation and posting since moving to the new timeline version...

Looking to hear back from you, let me know your thoughts, love it? hate it? other?

Thanks!

I had my shortcut to go to where it now defaults automatically. It makes more sense for regular users to see what has happened since the last visit etc.

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
