seachem replenish

good day . my only shrimp tank's tds is rather low. +- 80 ppm. friend suggested this product.  question : is this safe  to use for shrimps ? bcos it contains salt. can someone please help.  ... perhaps another safe substitute/ equivalent.

No, not Replenish. Euilibrium would be a better product to use.

Do you have access to any other shrimp remineralizers?

And what shrimp are you keeping?

yes I can access to other remineralizer. 

I had about 80+  mixed neo in my tank. fire red,  blue diamond,  sunkist orange, yellow  golden  back, rcs and yamato plus few snails. I'm looking for liquid type remineralizer.

If TDS is low, other water parameters might also be affected like pH. So best to check those parameters as well based on what neo caridina needs are. 

Equilibrium is better, as Zoidburg said. Salty Shrimp GH/KH is also good for more shrimp specific product. Another one is Mosura mineral plus Ultra (liquid), and Borneo Wild has a similar product for GH/KH+. But they are really all the same. Replenish is more for Marine tanks.

The problem with these liquid remineralisers is that they are expensive for what they are. Because someone has premixed it for you, and added cost is applied.

One bottle of equilibrium will last you a lot longer. And if you want, you can get a 500ml bottle and add some RO or demineralised water and a few tablespoons of equilibrium. It should take 4-5 tablespoons. Apply to water change (a few drops) and test with a TDS meter to get your desired TDS level.

 

I make my own remineraliser from Calcium Sulphate and Magnesium Sulphate. I still have 1kg of it in powder form from the last time I bought & mixed it. Much more economical.

many thanks for the advice.  I'll go for Equilibrium. btw. the replenish is out of stock here. (I've been using this for the last 3 years).

fyi. my tank parameters as below:-

ph 6-7.

gh 6-8.

kh 3-4 .

nitrates- 5.

ammonia, nitrite  -  0.

SL-Aqua, Vin Shrimp, MK-Breed and a few others out there do sell liquid remineralizers, however they are usually in GH or KH form, not GH and KH. It's either buy GH and KH or buy GH and figure out a way to raise KH.

I have noticed that if you let Equilibrium sit for a while that it tends to settle in the bottom of the container and turns yellow. I've used it for fish tanks, not shrimp tanks though. It also does not provide KH.

Replenish is "okay" for fish tanks, but not planted tanks. Still wouldn't recommend it for shrimp.

 

I haven't used jayc's method for a remineralizer so any questions about that best directed to him.

zoidbutg, can I know what is the reason replenish is no good for planted tank n shrimps. it just bring up the never on tds not gh or kh. and is premixed ready to use. anyway I'll try Jay's method when I get my Equilibrium today or tomorrow. it make sense.  will update the result. thank you for your time for replying.

It's just salts. Keep the bottle out of the sunlight. 

Shake the bottle before use. There might be some parts that cannot be dissolved fully and settles in the bottom, but that is not a problem and causes no harm.

this is the main reason for not using Equilibrium.  your method of putting them in the bottom 1st and use it later.  and use dissolved ones later . I believed it can solve the precipitated issue.

It's Seachem's recommendation actually not to use with planted tanks and I just feel Equilibrium is better if we are going to choose between the two for shrimp.
